great! Thanks for the info.!

Mine lived in Poly Cyn last year but my comments should apply to Cerro Vista as well. There is a Costco somewhere in SLO. The roommates went there for chicken, fruits, giant frozen mixed veggies, giant choc milk powder, etc etc. Of course if you’re not sharing food this might not be the way to go.

…and now a couple of comments from a mom who was there at the end of year:
*put shelf paper down in the cabinets where you keep pots/pans and oil, honey or other sticky stuff. Cleanup will be so much easier at the end.
*I don’t know about cooktops in Cerro Vista, but at Poly Cyn they’re electric elements with those shiny metal rings and drip pans. S and roommates did not realize til half way through the year that those things come apart and the metal rings are not supposed to be stuck to the cooktop.
*move-in required a quick trip to BB&B for things nobody thought of; dish drying rack, tray for kitchen sponge-thingy, hand soap for bathrooms.

Have a happy & successful year all you Mustangs…

Thank you mikasauntie! Great tips for our students. I did not think about shelf paper in the kitchen. That sounds very smart. Would you recommend putting foil on the stove top drip pans?
Got the dish drying rack and some handsoap to start with in the bathroom, but I can see there are a few more things to get. Hopefully the roommates will talk about what they have already purchased once they get contact info. this Friday.

have a super year!

Stove drip pans: The guys were not charged to replace them although they were definitely no longer all shiny, so I guess maybe I was just a little more stressed about it than the school. But if I were living there myself I would do the foil thing.
S probably will too…now that he knows its an option.

I will suggest it. It will make clean up easier at the end of the year. Good to know that the school wasn’t too picky about it!

In the map for Cerro Vista is shows paths leading across the hillside passing through the different sections of Cerro Vista (Morro, Cabrillo, Holister, etc). Now that we know the unit we’ll be moving into I can see that it will be ideal to just move my daughter’s stuff on a dolly across those paths and through Cabrillo to get to Hollister. Am I correct in thinking that the path goes between Cabrillo and we don’t have to go into it on one side and out on the other to pass through?

Hi Mariner116! My son is assigned to Morro. Really easy to get to. I am looking at a map of the complex and it looks like there is some parking close to Hollister in the loop. I think they will allow you to park there if you reserve a time. Did you see that on the site? It doesn’t show you the time you get right now, but we logged in and requested a time. You may want to use it or just walk through the buildings along the paths like you said. You will have to park in R-1 and that may be full.

Thanks momofmv! I had not noticed that sign-up. I guess they dropped the home zip code idea for scheduling move-in at Cerro Vista. For others reading this, they are doing the sign-ups by 40-minute time slot starting at 8:00am. That is what we picked (might as well get the show on the road). The early morning slots are going fastest.

I was wondering if the students are allowed to re-arrange the Cerro Vista rooms? Can they move the Wardrobe (closet) or is it attached to the wall.

For the Unit C apartments in bedrrom C could any current students or parents tell me where the closet is located? Where is the bed? We’re trying to fit a tv/storage stand. It would be nice to know so we can plan ahead…otherwise I guess we can buy it, and see if it fits.

Sorry in my message above I tried to send the floor plan link…it was the wrong one…

My son was in a Unit C floor plan in Cerro Vista last year, bedroom D. His best friend had bedroom C. The bed was on the right side of the room along the wall, with the wardrobe next to it close to the door. The desk was on the left. The friend raised the bed up, put the smaller rolling drawer under the bed, and brought in his own small bookshelf that he placed next to his desk. The wardrobes are moveable.

To be honest, the rooms are so small that there’s not a lot of options on how to configure them. A small tv stand would probably fit. There’s no closet in the rooms, just the long storage area inside the unit that everyone shares.

Thanks vballmom, that’s helpful.

Somewhere in University Housing/Continuing Students or Parents is information on what you can and can not do in the apartments. Check PCV Terms & Conditions, PCV Handbook and PCV FAQs. PCV info might be last years but it still applies to Cerro Vista and most likely to this year. Specifically there is info on moving furniture, how tall a bookcase can be, etc. The bedroom closet/wardrobe is a huge piece of furniture so you might not want to move it. By leaving the two chest of drawers under the bed, you might have more room for a bookcase or TV stand. If you look at CVs Furnished Apartment Photos (top photo, second from the right), youll see how big the closet is and the two chest of drawers under the bed. Your bedroom might have a different configuration but everyone will have the same furniture to deal with or move around. I believe you can lift or lower the bed by changing the screws in the legs but Im not sure how easy a task that is.

Do the bathrooms in Cerro Vista have any storage?

I’ve seen pictures where there appears to be carpet in the Cerro Vista bedrooms, but when we looked in some of the windows while visiting for Soar - there was no carpet. Are some carpeted and others not. Or have they pulled out all the carpet?

I’m pretty sure all the bedrooms are supposed to have carpet. They may have just pulled the carpet out of some of them rooms in order to put in new ones.

The bathrooms do not have any storage, but even the smaller bathroom has enough space to fit one of those plastic storage units with drawers so if you buy one you can keep some tuff in there. I had the smaller of the two bathrooms, so my roommate who I shared the bathroom with also shared one of these storage units with me. My two other roommates who shared the larger bathroom each had their own. You can also get one of those rack things you put over the shower head to store some stuff like shampoo on. If you have the bathroom with the bathtub, you can get one of those shelf things you stick in one corner of the tub.

A question for north mountain dorms: or moving in in general///

So move in day is September 13th… but could we still move in other days? or do we have to move in exactly on September 13th? Cause my parents have to work and can’t seem to get a day off unfortunately… could we still move in after?

Yes, you can move in on Tuesday or any day the week prior to school starting. The unfortunate thing is you will miss the activities that are scheduled the night of the 13th and there are activities all day Tuesday as well. The program is called Launch and it is designed to help you get to know your roommates and the other students in your dorm. It continues on Wednesday and then by the afternoon, they transition into WOW week.

Monday is clearly the best day to move in. I hope your parents can get a day off to help you. I think it will be a very difficult start at CP if you aren’t able to move-in on Monday. You will feel like you missed out on a lot of the fun and informative activities. I am sure your roommate would also feel badly that you can’t move in on the same day.
It is likely to be a good way to get to know one another.

Keep working on it! It will all work out. I am so sorry that your parents cannot get a day off to help you. Is there anyway that you could go down there yourself with just an overnight bag and be there for the fun and your parents could come another day with the rest of your things? Good luck to you!

Is there anyone else who could help you?

@NTKS17:

Do you know what kind of washers Cerro Vista has? I.e. HE kind (high-efficiency) or just normal kind…? This will affect what kind of detergent me and my roommates have to buy. When I talked to housing, they said the washing machines are side-loading, low-water energy-efficient kind, and that liquid detergent is recommended, so that leads me to believe that they are the HE kind.

Also, do you have a suggestion for a reasonable weekly allowance? (For groceries, and other essentials)…

Thank you! =]

I’m pretty sure they are the high efficiency kind, I forget what make exactly. Liquid detergent is probably best, that’s what I used and it worked well. As far as a weekly allowance goes, it can really depend. If you’re going to have a car that you’ll be driving regularly, you’ll probably spend about $10-$20 on gas (thats how much my friend with a car spent). Since you’ll have a meal plan, you probably won’t have to spend too much on groceries, you may not even have to go shopping every week, so anywhere from like $5-$25/$30 depending on how often you shop and how much you buy/eat. And then maybe another $5-$10 dollars for miscellaneous things like laundry card refills, things you need for school, paper towels, etc. So that’s anywhere from like $20< to like $50. It can be hard to estimate beforehand, but after a couple weeks, I’m sure you’ll know how much you’re spending.
