All,
What is your take on the CEM certificate (http://www.aeecenter.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3351) ? Is it worth it? Or is it just some obscure title that no one really cares for/knows what it means?
From what it looks like (http://www.aeecenter.org/files/certification/cem-studyguidepartc.pdf), it is a pretty simple exam that will probably just make for an annoying/long day, but should not be too hard to do (kind of like the FE).
It is pretty expensive and you have to go through some mandatory training. So I am wondering if it is it worth it?
Anyone who has this certificate care to share if it opened doors, or did something beneficial for you?
I’ve never heard of it, but get mailings on various certifications like this on a regular basis. They probably do have some value to a section of industry or perhaps some companies value it for existing employees, such as they may want a facility manager to maintain a cert. But I would not pursue it in hopes of opening doors. It’s also stupid expensive. In comparison I pay $80 bi-annual to maintain my PE.
To maintain a PE, you just have to pay a bi-annual fee? Dont you have to do yearly seminars or something as well?
Most states, maybe all, do have some sort of continuing ed requirement. My employer holds regular technical seminars which allow me to meet it.
