Certified for IGETC

When I clicked on this, I thought it meant that I would complete IGETC by Spring. I know it’s pretty late in the game, but is that what the section meant? Someone was telling me that it wasn’t?
I’ll be done with IGETC by Spring…do I need to do something else?

Make an appointment with a counselor so they can certify you.

Like at the end of the semester or right at this second and contact the UCs ASAP?

You’re fine, most of us are IGETC ready at the end of this Spring, meaning many of us will then go get certified. I’m pretty sure you’ll have until at least June or July to get that done, after this Spring.

@mizurue, After you finish your spring term and are requesting transcripts ask for the full IGETC certification to be sent. It’s a separate item. It can’t be done until you finish the courses. If you are missing 1-2 courses, you need to request Partial Certification be sent.

They want to receive it by July 15, but are lenient because some of the CCCs lag.

Lindy is right, I have to personally go in to see a counselor to get certified because I have 6 campuses to gather info from, so that’s why I said “go get certified”. Most of you normal folks can probably just request it when requesting transcripts. Good luck!

wow, @fullload, we agree! I can go to bed peacefully tonight and have sweet dreams. This is a momentous day! just kidding… Good luck tomorrow. ^:)^

Question, I did all of my courses at pcc, except for my math, which is IP and at another school. Would I just take my transcripts back to PCC? To get igetc certified?

Yes, that’s what you should do.

Thank you!

@vidaless I think you are supposed to get IGETC certified at the last school you attended. At least, that is what it said to do on the IGETC forms at my school

See this link, under the title “Certification” at the bottom: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/transfer/advising/igetc/

“Certification of IGETC completion is the responsibility of the last community college a student attends prior to transfer.”

No, you should get certified at the one who did everything. Usually that is the last school, but all OP has to do is request it be done at previous, which he should since every class is there except one. That is allowed. It would be weird to do it at the second CCC. He just needs the transcript sent over.

Oh, I didn’t know you could do that. That would make my life so much easier! If it’s been a year since I’ve attended College of Marin, but I did most of my IGETC classes there, can I get my IGETC from College of Marin?

By the way, how do you know all this info @lindyk8 ? Are you a college counselor? Just wondering. You seem to know your stuff!

Yes, you can request it be certified anywhere. The last CCC just has to say ok. They could say no, but if most IGETC courses are somewhere else it makes sense because the prior would know all the info. Go to your current CCC and ask how you go about requesting it. Or call Marin.

I was a journalist/marketing exec in trade but have been helping local kids for a long time, mainly with essay stuff and moved into transfer help about a year ago after assisting my daughter and her friends with the process (many let down by counselors). This last year I’ve devoted myself to this process, so have accumulated a lot of knowledge from a bunch of sources. (It’s the journalist in me, haha).
