for all of you who’ve been through the process, when did you do the CFA and the DoDMERB? (in reference to the summer between jr and sr years of highschool) and when did you have your interview w/ your ALO? i’ve done everythin i’m supposed to w/ the academy and my congressmen, now its just a waiting game… but i still need to do my CFA and DoDMERB and my interview w/ the ALO… so if ya could, just tell me when you did these to give me a guideline… isnt it true you can only do the CFA once? thanks alot!

You can do CFA more than once.

so, they take your highest score (like the act and sat)? cuz i swear i thought i saw somewhere it said you can only do it once.. who knows

CFA: September of senior year

dodmerb: July (summer going into senior year)

Interview with ALO: July (")

Ditto -

Son had ALO interview in July shortly after returning from summer seminar.
Completed DoDMERB exams during July too.
Did a practice CFA prior to the "real" one by late Sept.
Recieved letter of assurance by late Oct.
Nomination interviews in Nov.
Letter of appointment in Dec.

alrighty thanks alot..i havent heard any dates about it lately so i thought i'd ask. i think i'm gonna try to take my CFA before this school year is out, cuz i'm in great shape right now. i'll be so busy over the summer i'll lose it.. now, gasdoc, when you say nomination interviews you're talkin bout w/ congressman? thanks alot guys

Pretty sure gasdoc is referring to ALO interview, as congressional interviews typically are towards the end of the year.

Right - congressional interviews are held towards end of the year (they were November in our state this year). Practice the individual components of the CFA and make sure you can do them in sequence without getting overly fatigued. Son's guidance counselor arranged for CFA to be done by a phys ed teacher who was familiar with it and does them each year.

alright sounds reasonable... yeah i've done all of the CFA components before during our PT team in jrotc (i'm in army cuz we dont have air force.. lol) so i'm pretty familiar w/ them.. but doing them in sequence under the time constraints,... well, i havent tried it. i need to

It is fairly easy, given the rest periods...not like the PFT here.

Interview - August
DoDMERB - August
CFA - October??
LOA - October
Nomination - December
Appointment - December

And definitely make sure you take the CFA seriously. I didn't practice for the specific events very much (ahem at all ahem) and sucked royally. Now after I've practiced my scores are decent. Luckily I didn't have to retake, but I know people who have. Don't risk it. :) Good luck!

Ouch, so when we do PFT, its back to back? I can't wait for the third day of BCT, is it?;)

The max you get in between events is about a minute (unless you max the event really quickly).

Its going to be like that the first time we do the PFT right? If so then I definatly need to start prepping for it.

every PFT is given the same, with only a minute in between. some hints:

-don't waste time and effort on pull-ups you know there is no way you can complete (still try, but if you barely, barely, barely get 7, and start slow on 8, drop)
-don't take a practice jump. normally this jump is your best (not for everyone, so you can try yourself), but takinga practice is keeping me off athletic list this semester (i kno other things could ahve improved, but that practice jumps gave me enough points)
-obviously, try your hardest. if you crash at the end, you've done great

and do start prep, especially push-ups and crunches, and pull-ups if you can

Ya the pushups and situps I'm pretty set at, but the pullups, eh. thats where i need the most work.

Interview - July, a month after Summer Seminar
DoDMERB - August
CFA and all other paperwork - September 1 (the date USAFA recommends you get it in by)
Nomination - December
Appointment - March (long wait, huh?)

As for the CFA, I trained really hard with a personal trainer for a month and a half before I took it, and I took 3 practice CFA's. I scored the average for guys entering USAFA (which is a good thing).

alrighty... that sounds good
