thanks eri n j. I'll take whatever help I can get. I'm relatively new to all of this stuff. I like the card thing maybe split it into houses (spades-pushups diamonds-crunches hearts-cardio clover-pull ups). here's some advice of my own google the armstrong pull-up method and I guarantee you'll be happy with the results. thanks for all of the advice and if any of y'all have random athletic advice, exercises, tips, etc. feel free to post away.

eri, I like that card idea...im gonna try it...

To be honest, I never worried too much about the basketball throw.... I practiced a little, but I knew I wasn't going to improve much, so I focused on getting what I could and then moving onto doing better in everything else. You don't have to do that part of the CFA as part of your PFT at USNA, so it is obviously important for admissions, but not that important.

That said, really try to get it near the standard; if you fail, it won't matter how well you do otherwise, that won't really outweigh messing up the throw.

I guess I should get on the bball throw...I can max out all the other girls' standards but it would suck to fail that due to technique or whatever and ruin the whole damn thing. appreciate the advice, should help a lot.

Yeah, i agree with the other posters. The basketball throw is a pretty stupid test if you ask me, and I didn't worry to much about it. But, you DO NOT want to fail it. And as I posted before, even your CFA score COULD determine your acceptance, and the basketball throw is technically as evenly weighted as the rest of the test. So at least practice it some.

would it look bad at summer seminar if I'm not good in all areas on the CFA? I mean I'll be in excellent shape when I take my final CFA early fall but I won't look amazing at nass. I know the cadre will score us and that gets looked at for the admissions board. I guess I can just let my supervising mid know that I'll be in much better shape in just a few months. I started way too late in getting prepared, I've got four weeks and change 'til I leave and I'll be getting up at 5:30 in the morning to run and spend 2 hours at the gym every night until NASS. I guess it's the perfectionist coming out of me but I don't want to be viewed as some kid who hasn't prepared himself right.
And Clif, How's the yoga? I think I might start doing a yoga class two-times a week to improve flexibility! would that be a good idea?

zaner - try your absolute best on the CFA and PRT and you'll be fine. the mids are looking at attitude at NASS. i had a sprained ankle at NASS from my week at West Point so obviously i couldn't even complete the running parts of the CFA and PRT. although i don't know what my squad leader's eval said of me, i did receive an appointment and will be reporting in july.
go in with lots of questions and enthusiasm. show that you're motivated.

I agree with hersheybear04, it is all about attitude. The biggest thing right now for you is DON'T OVERTRAIN. It isn't the quantity of work you do it is the quality. Spending two hours in the gym is just going to wear down your muscles. Focus more on proper form and exercises that work the muscles together. Try to use free weights more than the machines, it is a lot more challenging and a lot better when trying to build overall fitness. You don't want to go to NASS with a bunch of tired, sore muscles.
Also remember that while physical fitness is a big part of the academy,it isn't everything. Honestly I feel the people who made the biggest impression on the squad leaders weren't the ones that aced the PT, but rather the people that maintained a positive attitude, gave everything they had, and helped their fellow squad members. My best advice is work hard, try your best, don't sweat the small stuff, and enjoy the experience.

so is your goal on the CFA to be as close to the Max as possible in all areas does that equal a 100????

my two hours at the gym includes an hour in the pool doing laps or playing a little basketball. I usually do freeweights exclusively and only use the machines for preacher curls, and supplemental ab work.
I'm so excited for NASS. I sent in my payment for reservation awhile ago and still haven't received the follow up letter and "schedule" yet.
