Chance a California boy

I go to a very competitive private catholic school in Los Angeles. Being out of state might kill me but who knows really. My dad went to Michigan so thats my one hook.

LS&A - Economics

SAT: 2160 (Math: 800, Writing: 720, Reading 640)
SAT IIs: Math 2: 720, US history: 530 (not my strongest score)
GPA: W 4.0, UW 3.6
AP's and Honors: 5 APs and 3 Honors throughout the 4 years
EC's: 2 Years of varsity baseball (Southern California has most competitive baseball in the country), Irish Club Secretary, Club Unity Vice President, over 200+ hours of community service

I'm white and obviously out of state so that doesn't help.

Any responses would be much appreciated

I had almost identical scores/EC’s and I was accepted so I say you have a really good shot. The only thing that might get you is the gpa but you should be fine.

Reach, GPA is a little low (3.8 UW would help), but the rest looks good.

UMich is not recalculating GPAs anymore. The SAT is solid, apply early and I think you have a good shot.

i had roughly the same stats as you (im from california too but i go to a nonpopular public school) and i got in even though i applied relatively late - early/mid jan to the College of Engineering.

some advice, apply earlier than i did, especially since you’ll probably have some questions since their app is so much different than the UC app.

jfmclaury, are you a Junior applying in the fall or are you a Senior who has already applied.

Your SAT is good, your courseload is tough, your ECs are good and your GPA, although a little low, is not bad.

I would say reach/match.

You will definately get in…they need the OOS money and the legacy helps too!
Apply early. There has been quite a variety of stats posted…check the accepted thread for many examples. Oh…and don’t count on any non loan scholarship $$ unless your EFC is WELL under $20,000…you can read up on that thread too so you won’t have any surprises next March. Good Luck!!
