Chance a high school junior please?

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to read over my little manifesto here.

Intended major: Not sure yet, but I'm probably going for psychology, political science or history (I'm leaning the most toward the latter two).

UC GPA: 3.69.

High School: In-state, VERY competitive, and one of the top 10 feeder schools to both UCSD and UCI.

SAT: 1600 (M+CR) / 2350 (all in one sitting)

SAT IIs- World History: 800, Math 2: 710, Bio E: 800

AP: Psych, English Lang and Comp, Comp Sci, World History, US History- All 5s, (self studied Psych and World History)

I worked hard on my personal statements, my AP English Lang teacher liked it, as did my AP English Lit teacher, and my Honors Chem teacher (who has an MFA in some Literature).

Senior Year Schedule:
AP Environmental Science
AP English Lit
AP Art History
AP Calc AB/Calc C Honors
AP Gov
Spanish 3

ECs and Achievements:

Captain of Quiz Bowl Team (I share the title with another individual, but I do most of the organization of tournaments that we host or attend.)

Constitution Team co-captain

Vice President of the Young Republicans

I regularly volunteer at a nonprofit for veterans of the Iraq War, approx. 350 hours so far

FBLA Treasurer

Safety. Great job on your test scores. Very defined ECs.

Honors/Regents: low match (GPA)

Vice Pres of Young REPUBLICANS?! Boo! Lol just kidding

Overall you seem really well qualified, but your GPA is quite low. I don’t think that should stop you from getting admitted though.

Thanks for the replies guys! Anymore insight from anyone?

Im pretty sure you’re a match/in for UCI; I have friends who have been accepted with a similar GPA, and much, much lower SAT/AP/ extracurriculars. UCSD, UCLA and Cal are probably very far reaches though

You have a great shot at UCSD and perhaps UCLA & Cal.

Your lower GPA is probably due to the competitiveness/rigorousness of your school/schedule.

Your SAT certainly makes up for it.

Extra insight: Consider applying to HYPSM, you’re SAT is 99th percentile easy.

Yeah, I’m probably not even going to apply to UCLA and Cal. I’m probably just going to be applying to UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCSB, UCR, and UCM (I have no interest in Santa Cruz).

Your ■■■■■■■■ makes me sad. =(

According to this you already applied… Remember?

I wouldn’t call it ■■■■■■■■… not necessarily ****ing anyone off

Hi Bothwings,

Everything looks great–Your GPA, SAT score, and ECs are all excellent. Your senior schedule also shows that you are still striving for challenge and excellence in academics. However, if you’re applying for schools that are highly competitive, do keep in mind that many other applicants may have the same “qualifications” as you do. Hence, it is important for you to write an excellent personal statement to make you stand out from others.

Best of luck with the rest of your high school career. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know!
