Yup, all your classes need a C or higher to be admitted to a UC.

cunningggenius:

UCI/UCSB: Slight Reach
UCSC: Match

I'm an arizona resident. How hard is it to get into UCSC while being an out of state resident????

I heard it was almost impossible

UCB and UCLA are the truly selective ones for out-of-state applicants.

say I have a 3.5 and don't have and SAT scores in... is that a long shot being out of state and all?

say I have a 3.5 and don't have any SAT scores... is that a long shot being out of state and all?

by the way I came back from having only a 3.0 my freshman year

I went to RYLA this summer :D I'm thinking of going to the International RYLA during senior year summer if my rotary club sponsors me ___
Best thing ever including Interact. Haha. Which district?
Anyways, I believe UC school only look at 10th & 11th grade areas and not 9th/12th grade stuff.
You volunteered a lot and that's good, but that D in Pre-Calc is going to drag your chances.
You have...A LOT of clubs. I can't see what you are really interested in.
Since you said you wanted to major in film studies/production, you should have probably had some internships, volunteering, clubs involved in that area, emphasizing that you are interested in the area so that the colleges know your interest area.

Junine,
what you should have done was to retake that class over the summer at a community college. (CA community colleges have summer precalcus courses) As long as it's UC tranferrable, your school will weight that into your GPA instead of a D. A D would still apprear on your transcript, BUT the Other higher grade will be used in your GPA, which UC's and colleges Accept.

There's a procedure for this, but it's too late for you now. Here is what you should do instead.

what you should do now:

Study HARD for your sat ii's, UC's count them with twice as much weight as SAT"s. YOu are a match for UC Santa Cruz and UC SB and a reach for IRvine if you Ace them.

IMPORTANT
I suggest that since you do not have a strong junior year, you should take (retake) Precalculus your senior year. By not taking a class that you did bad in, this sends a message to colleges that you might not be able to handle their coursework and/ or are not motivated. Sure, you'll still have a D in your transcript when you apply, but by taking the class you show colleges that you DO care and do not give up after defeat.Even getting a B- or C+ in precal senior year is btter than not retaking it.

good luck. Also make your senior a little bit harder. UC"s look closely at senior year schedule. Even though you are majoring in film studies, please try to take a science class. Chem, BIo, physics, etc. (not eniov, sci). you barely met the UC standard for 2 sciences, most people at UCSB and UCSC have more than two year's of science. AP pysch is not counted as a science. This will help you at other schools too. Don't worry, you are NOT screwed for UC's.

this is becuase if you have a D in subjects, they simply will wiegh down your GPA, BUT they won't be counted in your A-G course requirments. So you will have one year less of math for A-G requirements, and D's in your GPA, but you are NOT prevented from UC admissions. I know becuase I called them since a similar situation happened to me.

If your high school is charatogroized as underperforming or doesn't send alot of kids there, you might still have a chance (UCI). Won't hurt to submit an APP.

Good luck.

^^^^ Why do people think UCSB is the easiest to get into our of all of the other mid uc schools. UCSB actually has a lower acceptance rate and their gpa is a little bit higher than both Irvine and Davis.

UCSB doesn't get the respect it deserves. Just bc they have a great party scence, people think their academics are worse. UCSB kills all of the UC's.......why wouldn't you want crazy parties, the most amazing campus, and great academics.

And to the op if you happen to get into UCSB, (I personally don't think you will though, unless your really bring up your sat), go there bc UCSB is the BIGITY BOMB!!!!

Good Luck though...it's possible
