chance a hopeless junior :[ will def chance back! i promise

thanks alot! for coming to this thread and chance me

haha xD i hope I can keep it up…and I haven’t took the SAT yet, but I’m actually prepping now…

If your family has such a low income how will you pay for Northeastern?

It’s called scholarships, aid, FAFSA
^__^

It’s nice to finally see another IB student  . But down to business. You still have time right now to improve on the SAT score. The average SAT score of NEU is 1850-1880, which means that you need to improve by nearly 300 points. It is a large amount, but it is perfectly possible. Just persevere in test prep and you should be able to do it.

Your GPA is showing improvement, which is a trend that unis would like to see. Northeastern still has some pretty high GPA requirements, so if you have time left, then I would suggest that you make the most of it to improve on what you can. The IB course will definitely help make your application look better. Although, overall, the GPA will be slightly more of a liability than a help, so make sure to improve because you still have 12th grade!

Your ECs are mostly volunteer work, which is good on one point because it shows you are particularly devoted towards one type of EC (perseverance). Although, in the remaining time that you have left, try out some more ECs. Maybe something like debate or some other school club. Show long term dedication in those and you can compound the benefit that I just mentioned above. Try to do more to at least expand on your EC profile in order to make it more ‘‘shiny’’ and appealing to admissions officers. Although, so far it is sufficient for most unis.

Overall, Northeastern, as you currently stand, will be a low reach for you. It is within the realm of possibility, but it is a bit ‘‘distant’’. You can come closer to it, but you will need to pool in and use your remaining time effectively. It is possible and I wish you the best of luck in it. Additionally, you are not ‘‘hopeless’’ as you may claim. I know people who have situations far worse than yours (believe your situations right now is pretty good) and they have gotten uni offers. So, it is still possible.

Be ready to accept other alternative unis though. This applies to everyone. Uni acceptance/rejection is the first true time in most of our lives when we will experience regret and disappoint on a high level, so it is best to set up your expectations in a wide net.

Please Chance mine btw :)

^
Just so you know the GPA’s have jumped at that school according to current students. 1900 plus is now the average score.

I didn’t mean to sound antagonistic it’s just that Northeastern isn’t the best for FA. If it’s a reach for you the chances of getting merit aid are low. If by fafsa you mean federal aid, that is only like $5500 in grants and a bit more in loans. You’d need some amazing outside scholarships. I hope you have financial safeties.

I’m aware of the scholarship problem. I’m planning to go to UMass Amherst and then transfer to Northeastern. XD but I’ll still sign up, I know my GPA is not good enough but I check the NEU site and its GPA range is 3.6-4.0 ranged I think

bump  edit: i just found out today that no matter how high i get…i cannot get to a weighted gpa of 3.6…T_T
