Chance a Junior for Columbia ED and others!

Hi everyone, I'm currently a junior and I have basically been in love with Columbia for years, but I do have some other schools I've come to love as well. Chance me and I'll chance back!(:

Schools:
Columbia ED
Boston College
NYU
Johns Hopkins
Wesleyan (CT)
Brandeis
Hofstra (safety)
Susquehanna (safety)

Major: Creative Writing
IB Diploma Candidate
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.5 W
SAT: 2200 (this is projected - taking the SAT in March)
SAT IIs: taking English, US History and Bio
Rank: top 10% of class
APs: Euro History (4)
IBs: taking Bio SL this year. English HL, HOTA HL, Visual Arts HL, Math Studies SL, Philosophy SL and Italian SL next year

ECs/Community Service:
CAS
Copy Editor of the school newspaper grades 10 and 11; will be Head Editor senior year. Helped totally revamp and reinvent the paper my sophomore year after it had not been published for three years previously
Italian Club - Secretary 9th grade, Co-President 10th, 11th and hopefully 12th
Buddy Club with my brother, who has special needs
Interact Club as well as projects through my local Rotary alone
National Honor Society
National Art Honor Society
Relay for Life: team captain 9th and 10th. I am on my school's Relay for Life Executive Committee as a junior and will be as a senior, but I will continue to captain a team through senior year
I contribute to my school's art and literary magazine as well.

Work Experience: I lifeguard at my local yacht club during the summer; I have done so since 2011

Awards/Recognition:
3rd place for two pieces in a local writing competition
National Gold Medal for one of my writing pieces through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (fingers crossed that I'll win this year too!)

Possible Hooks: my brother and I were born 16 weeks early; our prematurity has resulted in severe health complications for him and a minor disability for me - vocal cord paralysis. Learning to accept my voice has been a unique experience for me. Additionally, growing up with a special needs sibling has definitely affected my perspective on life. This will likely be the subject of many of my college essays.

Thank you in advance for chancing me! :)

Of course Columbia is still a crapshoot, but I really think you have a good shot! Your leadership with the newspaper is fantastic and it’s pretty unique that you’re taking Italian.

May want to raise your SAT a little bit just for security.

Overall, I’d say you’re in everywhere except JHU and Columbia, but you should definitely still apply to both those places.

Best of luck!

Oops, forgot to mention: i have been swimming competitively for 6 years and have been a member of my school’s Varsity Swim Team since freshman year. I will be Co-Captain senior year.

Summer Programs: Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth - 5 consecutive years of online creative writing programs. When I completed the last course in the summer before sophomore year, I had reached the writing level of a college undergraduate.
Hofstra University Intensive Summer Creative Writing Program
I hope to get an internship this summer if possible.
