Hey!
Thanks for actually viewing this thread. You have made my day. So I know Princeton is definately a long shot but I figure I might as well give it. I'm not sure what I want to go into but I don't think its going to be pure sciences. Here are my stats. Please chance- I'm nervous!
Junior
ACT: 31 (taking it again in April so...we'll see)
SAT: took it in March so I haven't gotten my score back yet
Location: SMALL town in Alabama
School type: public, NOT competitive
Rank: 2/280 now but should graduate val...
AP's: this year-AP Cal AB, AP Chem, AP US History; senior year- AP Biology, AP Engligh Lit, AP English Lang
Other academic: Next year I'm taking Cal II and III, and Organic Chem at a local community college
EC's: Debate Club, Student Government Association, Interact ( a service club)
Leadership EC's: co-founder of Chemistry Club, organized Spanish Club Coat Drive (Got 34 coats, heck yeah! Take that cold people!),Community Youth Leadership Program Participant
Volunteering: volunteer at City Commision , read to children at a local elementary school, soon I'm going to be volunteering 10 hours a week at our local hospital
Misc.: I am spending a month this summer at the University of Alabama taking classes for college credit and also spending another week at the Engineering college there...I know that UA is not the MOST prestigious university in America but money has been a issue lately...
Hook: probably am appling with a ROTC scholarship (where the government pays for all college expenses provided you give them 6 years of your life)

Keep in mind that opportunities in Alabama are few and far between!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!

Depends on the stuff you haven’t mentioned. Essays, Recs, Sat, I know you retook ACT (33+), GPA. Your leadership looks good, but what is your passion? Is it ROTC? Everyone has an equal opportunity, but it looks like you have good qualities and a good chance of being accepted. I relate to you with financial problems. Its a lot harder to get good grades and do well in anything, when you don’t have the money. GOOD LUCK! Junior, right?
BTW My school is amazing at ROTC, even though I am not in it myself. I think we ranked 2 in the country last year.

Thanks for replying! I would say that ROTC is probably my passion corny as that sounds. Well, it might be more appropriate to say the government is. I’m not a crazy patriot though, it just interests me. My essays are good (though I’m afraid they’re a little risky. They’re very personal.), my recs are good too ( I got one from the mayor of our town who I volunteer with which is pretty cool i guess).

Fleura, don’t forget to make time to fit in the 3 SAT II’s that are required. If you’re applying BSE (engineering) they suggest 1 Physics or Chem, 1 Math, and 1 of your choice, otherwise any 3 will do for humanities.

Check with your library to see if they have any prep books you can check out to
familiarize yourself with these tests because they are somewhat different than AP’s (not necessarily harder, just different). If money is tight check with your guidance counselor about fee waivers for the standardized tests and also application fee waivers.

Princeton doesn’t care what kind of school you come from (more kids are from public schools these days than private), just that you make the most of your circumstances by applying yourself academically and giving back to your school and community, and it looks like you’ve got all that covered :)

Lol. Yes… I guess there IS the Huntsville Space Center… Alabama was a few hot spots but honostly we don’t have the same opportunites here are say, Boston. I wouldn’t say my recs and essays were DONE, per se but I have finished the rough drafts and am piling up recs from all my teachers etc. to see which I want to use. Thank you all very much for your posts. They have been very helpful. :)
