I've wanted to go to a top school for almost as long as I can remember...Harvard, Yale, and Stanford being my top three :P I know its hard and its probably an unrealistic dream...but here are my stats

GPA: 3.97, unweighted. Idk how to calculate weighted GPA b/c my school doesn't do it, but so far I've taken 6 AP tests (as a sophomore) and plan on taking 5 this year (as a junior).

SATs: SAT I, 2390 - 800 Reading, 800 Writing, 790 Math, SAT II: History, 770

Leadership/Honors: Orchestra President/Concertmaster, Debate Captain for 2 years, Vice President Chinese Cultural Club, National Honor Society, Distinguished Honors of National Forensics League

Extra Curriculars: Internship at the State Capitol, Internship at the Federal District Courthouse, DECA, Debate, Cross Country, Track, State Youth Symphony, Math and Science Club, Science Olympiad, NHS, volunteer at the library, Peer Tutoring, Pit Orchestra for school musical (2 yrs)

Lol is there any more stuff that I need to put? :P

thanks!! i’m so glad i found this forum and i hope people get into the college they want
oops i forgot one thing…lol i’m asian. thats probably gonna suck huh? ;)

I realized there’s more stuff I need to post after reading the guidelines…teehee…should’ve done that first :P

AP/IBs: AP US History (5), AP Lang and Comp (5), AP Calculus AB (5), AP Macroeconomics (4), AP Physics (4), AP Microeconomics (3) - taken as a sophomore
AP Chinese, AP Euro, AP English Lit, AP Chem, AP Calc BC, IB Chem SL, IB French SL - taking this year as a junior
Class Size: 600s ish
Asian chick. From Utah :P

how did you take so many AP classes as a sophomore?
my school only allowed us to take two at a maximum number of AP classes.
we have to take other classes that are honors level that precede those AP classes before we actually are able to take them…

thanks hopeandambition best of luck to you too! @sprightly: idk, our school is pretty rigorous and lets us take whatever we want, basically. of course a lot of kids end up flunking and/or transferring out but…theres pretty much no limit to how many APs we can take i guess its not like that in the rest of the country?

I think you can def get into those schools, maybe lower ivies would be safeties for you. I think if you write good essays youre in, your stats are outstanding!

solid ec’s and the utah factor is a major plus…schools like these are reaches for anyone, but i’d say the odds are in your favor…what would you be applying for?

and I’m sure your weighted gpa is very high with all of your AP classes :)

I think everyone can agree that you have a solid chance - just make sure to get good recs and give a favorable interview, and you should be fine :)

Fuzzyfirebuny, you have a solid chance of getting in!
You’re stats and ECs are sweet with a very strong schedule. I know your that you’re Asian, which makes it harder, but I say that you are the type of person that Ivies look for! best of luck!

PS: thanks for your kind comments and for chancing me!

I’d say good chances everywhere but your top shots are essentially crapshoots. Seemingly perfect people have gotten rejected throughout so don’t start thinking that anything is assured. But this is pretty much as good as a chance gets.

looks good to me
what other schools are you applying to? I recommend Columbia haha
and what major are you looking at?

I would play up the debate on your app rather than math/science/music (which are stereotypically asian). unless you have a lot of passion for them of course. the forensic thing sounds cool.

good luck anyhow. I was proud of myself for getting accepted at Columbia, but I got outright rejected from HPSM with a similar app to yours (but I like the look of your ECs better :)).

According to your stats your golden. You have a VERY good chance at any of the 3 schools but, they are Ivy leagues so just remember to get some safeties when applying.

@ zephyr: haha lol nooo…i’m actually not all that strong in math/science i was looking at your stats and your math/science stuff is WAY better than mine (AIME, AMC, etc…impressive! but yeah, debate is what i <3, so i hope colleges recognize that
i’'m sorry you didnt get into HYPS! but columbia’s really impressive, 'grats on that :P

you look reallllly qualified. your stats are great. you have ec’s that aren’t all scattered all over the place. (and you do debate! awesome!)

the thing is you’re applying to the most selective schools imo. so it’s going to be a reach for anyone. the thing you’re missing is that hook. get that hook and you still won’t be a shoo-in (who is at those schools!) but you certainly would have no reason to be rejected with good recs/essays.

ugh, I really wanted to qualify for USAMO this year but I was off by 1 question on the AIME. too bad.

well, it would have been awesome to go to Stanford or Princeton, but I think I would be as happy at Columbia as at Yale or Harvard. just personal preference, Yale and Harvard didn’t really “fit”.
are you looking at any other schools? because I think it’s important to choose one or two other schools that you’ll love being at, even if they’re not a prestigious.

go write some kick-butt essays I liked mine, but they weren’t as amazing as I would have liked. honest, full of passion, but nothing too special.

lol will someone explain to me what exactly a hook is? i mean, i think i get the concept in general, but i’m not sure how it would apply to me… I’m Asian, from Utah, and a girl…erm…second generation immigrant… @zephyr: columbia is definitely nothing to be ashamed of. i cant even tell you how jealous i am right now that you get to enjoy the new york food…that alone is worth it :D

I think I’ll post updated stats later as a senior when I figure out all the schools I’m definitely applying to… In the meantime…hooray for SUMMER!! :D
