Hello. I am a MS transfer student looking to apply to four universities (already got accepted to North Texas). So I am asking specifically for Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), University of Texas, and University of Minnesota - TC. Here are all my stats.
High School
GPA: 4.0/4.25 weighted
Rank: Salutatorian of my class (not a very competitive school, but the top 20 or so students in each class are somewhat
ACT: 28
SAT: N/A
ECs: Mississippi Lions Band (sax player in this international-award winning, audition-based band; won an international championship in Germany); Class President during sophomore year; History Club President during senior year; Academic Team Captain during senior year
Community College
GPA: 4.0 (Summa Cum Laude)
In the Honors Program at the college
ECs: Played sax in France with my college’s band for the 70th anniversary of D-Day; also played some jazz in Paris
Thanks, everybody. I know Texas may be the most competitive on the list, but all thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Any info on the music programs at these schools would be GREAT. Thanks!
I’m not sure about Minnesota, don’t have any experience about transfer admissions there. If you can afford it, you may aim for UVA and U Rochester Eastman too. Why not NWU Bienen?
Thank y’all for all the help! Honestly, I haven’t really considered UVA or any of those. Haven’t heard much about their music programs. Eastman, however, I just didn’t see myself having much of a shot there. North Texas has an excellent music school that is often ranked up there with Eastman, though.
I auditioned with Ole Miss two days ago and seemed to be a shoe-in. They’ll get back to me with a music scholarship soon. Going to Austin next weekend.
When I first read the title I thought the “MS” meant middle school. And I was bewildered that I had to check it out. But IMO you’re golden for these schools. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks so much. I have been accepted to Ole Miss, Minnesota, and UNT. Still waiting on Texas. And so far Ole Miss and Minnesota have accepted me into their music programs. Should hear from UNT this week.
