<p>I'm a junior in high school, I'm in state, and I'm wondering where I stand next to others who will be applying to the University of Michigan.</p>
<p>One reason i decided to make an account is that i just took the ACT and am confident that I scored above a 30, although it was my first time taking it so it could be lower.</p>
<p>After the first two years of my high school career i am ranked 17 out of 253 students in my class, although I don't feel that my high school is super competitive. I'm also fairly sure that my rank has gone up from that as I am taking 3 AP classes (World History, Stats, and English 11) and have managed to get an A in all three for the first semester of the year. </p>
<p>I believe my unweighted GPA is around a 3.9 something. </p>
<p>As far as extracurricular activities, the only real things i have are 2 years (sophomore/junior year) of JV cross country, 2 years of JV basketball, and 2 years of JV baseball (captain if that counts for anything). I plan on playing baseball this year and i am already doing conditioning for it. </p>
<p>I haven't done any real volunteering, I'm not in any clubs, and I probably wont be in NHS.</p>
<p>I realize i still have over a year left of high school, but taking the ACT made me realize how close college is. What do you think my chances are of being accepted to the U of M?</p>
<p>Okay, bear with me. If i am understanding the question correctly, I think it is actually AP English language and composition although I’ve always called it AP English 11 for some reason.</p>
<p>The next question I don’t really have an answer to, I know very little about college so I’ve always had the idea that you apply to the university as a whole. I also haven’t put very much thought at all as to what i would like to study in college. </p>
<p>Last, one thing i always forget about is that I was suspended from my high school for 2 days my sophomore year. I didn’t do anything spectacularly bad, it was just that i was associated with what happened. Now that i think about it, I bet that a top university like U of M wouldn’t want a student who has been suspended, but i bet i could write a really good essay on that topic. Do you think that eliminates me from a possible admission?</p>
<p>If it’s on your record, then you would have to write about it. But if it was only for like 2 days, it may have been erased from your record. For example, my school after a year cleans one’s file of suspensions if it didn’t happen again. Check with your school on that because if it IS erased, then mentioning it is unnecessary! :)</p>
<p>Likely a yes for LS&A. Engineering is a maybe until you have an actual ACT score.</p>
<p>As for the suspension, you will have to specifically address the event if it’s in your record. At that point it will come down to what it was you were suspended for (e.g., toilet papering the head cheerleaders house vs something involving the phrase “homemade explosive device”). You will also want to have strong recommendations; I’m not sure you’d want them to talk about how you recovered from your suspension, just that you’re a wonderful person.</p>
