RECOMMENDATIONS

I expect them to be good. I'm planning on using teachers I have in junior and senior year, so I don't know yet.

Btw, do awards/honors from middle school count? I'm planning on attaching a resume since all this can't fit on the Common App. I have many math awards from middle school, and I'd love to put my 2nd place @ Internationals for Future Problem Solving on there.

I feel like I'm lacking in ECs, but I'm trying to make up for that with my academics, scores, "well-roundedness," and more awards/competitions in the future. I know it's a little early to judge since I'm changing my interests (less volunteering, starting debate and trivia now). Thanks again!

I think you have a great shot at all of those schools
Your GPA is ridiculous, you’re SAT score is phenomenal, not to mention you took it as a sophomore, and you’re EC’s are nothing to worry about
I’m not 100% sure on the full-ride to Duke as it is very difficult to even get in there, but you can guarantee some type of scholarship to UNC-CH
Your only downside is you come off like a typical Asian student. When I say that, I’m talking about the math competitions/various instruments.
Definitely make a point to come off unique in your essays and/or interviews.
Other than that, you look great!

Rising Asian junior who has taken the SAT, competes in math competitions, and plays a lot of instruments. This kinda screams typical Asian eh? You’ve got perfect stats, somewhat okay EC’s that don’t really distinguish you except for those internships, those are nice :D. I’d say you’re in at most if you can differentiate yourself from all the other Asians that do the same as you. For example, have you played at Carnegie Hall? :p. Yeah, that sort of thing.

Actually, I have played at Carnegie Hall for my middle school orchestra, hahaha.

Thanks for chances, btw. I’m also worried about seeming very typical, so now I’m trying to focus on my passions - my own club, which I have donated my internship stipends to and am making a special trip across the world for. I’m also really enthusiastic about trivia, and I’m expecting to get a rec from the advisor (also my Calculus teacher, who liked me). I love writing; I sometimes write for fun, and my essays usually receive the best grades in the class (even perfect 10th grade writing test score and 11 on SAT essay surprised me), and I plan to write about topics I have fervent passion for. :)

You did? Well then, that shut me up. Good luck not seeming average.

wow, all this as a soph
no, MIDDLE SCHOOL DOES NOT COUNT, sorry
but u have tremendous stats
if u get a 2300+, 750+ satII and good grades, u r set
make sure u write a good essay
chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/737217-am-i-good-shape-ivies-top-tier-schools-will-chance-back.html

How is it possible that you’ve done all this in the first 15 years of your life? Jeez… you’re so Asian lol. Only thing that stood out is that you play the Guzheng. Cool beans.

Anyways, I must agree with others that it’s a bit pretentious to expect a full ride from Duke, but UNC is possible and you have a wonderful shot at the rest of your schools. Just be aware that there are tons of overachieving Asians out there.

btw don’t put anything from middle school.

Thanks, guys. Man, I actually worked and competed more in middle school, haha. So I shouldn’t even mention international awards or Carnegie Hall from middle school?

I actually love learning - so the grades and some scores come more naturally and less stressfully for me. I have plenty of overachieving Asians surrounding me, so I guess I may be more motivated, I suppose.

I am actually planning on sending a guzheng recording as a music supplement since it’s pretty unique. If my teacher hadn’t moved away for a year, then I would have gone to china for a competition/evaluation/audition. :D

Oh, and for Duke full ride, Duke seems to recognize my school since we get 10-30 in every year and almost 1-2 full ride, but I would only consider Duke if I got full ride or did not make Ivies/MIT. Duke scholarships aren’t even separate apps, so I’m not worried as I’m not really looking too heavily into 'em. Thanks for honesty though; I’m more worried about ivies.

great shot at all of them with all of your scores and grades are amazing… but those schools need people to stand out so just make sure you keep up ur ecs and all that and enjoy high school

chance my bad stats back?
