Chance a rising senior for WUSTL(ED), Emory, Boston College, UVA, UC Berkeley, etc.

Hi, I’m a rising senior looking to apply to WashU early decision in the fall as well as other selective colleges. Please chance me, and it would also be very helpful to additionally have some suggestions/modifications that could be made to my college list.

Objective:

  • ACT: 33 C(35 E, 33 M, 33 R, 29 S, 34 W)
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.97 UW
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): school does not rank
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World(4), AP US History, AP Biology, AP Language, AP Government(haven't gotten these scores yet)
  • Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc BC, AP Euro, AP Lit, AP Comp Sci
  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): not really going to go into details but basically I have several average ECs with a couple of state and school awards, but no leadership which I'm really worried about. I also have a lot of volunteer hours
  • State (if domestic applicant): MO
  • School Type: public
  • Ethnicity: Asian
  • Gender: Male
  • Income Bracket: >200,000
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): not sure if this is a hook but both of my parents are employed at WashU, so I am a faculty child. WashU covers full tuition if I go so I'm really worried about college basically haha *Intended Major: not sure yet, but I'm looking at majoring along the lines of Political Science, Economics, or IR

Possible College List:

WUSTL(ED)
Emory
Boston College
Tulane
Duke
UC Berkeley
Pomona
Claremont McKenna
Tufts
Rice
Bowdoin
George Washington University
University of Virginia
University of Rochester
Indiana University
UIUC

another note: money is not an issue

Thanks!

pretty good chance at Bowdoin
George Washington University
University of Virginia
University of Rochester
Indiana University
UIUC
tulane
emory
boston college
tufts

the rest are pretty iffy. Raise act if you can, its on the low side bruh
but college admissions is based on luck so yeah

Duke is the only real reach on your list.

What about my chances for WUSTL ED specifically?

bump

@2jae7jbyj

Your stats seem fitting for WUSTL and having both your parents on faculty should help. To make up for lack of leadership, try to leverage the valuable experiences that you had in your ECs, and the impact you made (leadership is not just titles!). EDing to WUSTL seems like a REALLY good plan for you. Best of luck!

WUSTL(ED)- probably accept (if not, defer)
Emory- probably accept or waitlist
Boston College- accept
Tulane- accept
Duke- waitlist/deny
UC Berkeley- accept/waitlist/deny (not sure if I can tell)
Pomona- idk
Claremont McKenna- waitlist/deny
Tufts- accept
Rice- accept
Bowdoin- accept/waitlist
George Washington University- accept
University of Virginia- waitlist/deny (SUPER tough for OOS)
University of Rochester- accept
Indiana University- accept
UIUC- accept

Pomona has the lowest acceptance rates of the colleges on your list. Admission is unpredictable, but I would say that the California schools are probably the hardest to get into right now.

Thanks so much! @yikesyikesyikes Do you know if it would look bad if I don’t submit any SAT II’s? WUSTL says that they’re optional, but according to my parents it would make me less competitive. I already took two earlier this month(USH and Bio E) but I honestly don’t think I did well…

WUSTL(ED) - im almost 100% they will accept you
Emory - waitlist/accept
Boston College - accept
Tulane - accept
Duke - reject
UC Berkeley - hard to tell. I had a 2350 SAT, 36 ACT, top .1% in class of 1000, but I got waitlisted at Berkeley.
Pomona - idk
Claremont McKenna - idk
Tufts - accept
Rice - waitlist
Bowdoin - idk
George Washington University - accept
University of Virginia - waitlist
University of Rochester - accept
Indiana University - accept
UIUC - accept

@2jae7jbyj Having SAT 2s might make you more competitive, but that’s assuming the scores are good. IF you have bad/okay/below-700 scores, dont bother submitting them because they might make you look worse than if you submit no scores at all.

As an anecdote, I didnt take any SAT 2s because I just didnt want to (lol) and still got in to WUSTL RD, where I’ll be attending. Might have killed my chances at other schools such as Stanford, idk if that’s the reason, but I know it’s one thing I didnt have on my app that many others did. I dont really regret it though, I didnt want to take so many more tests just to get from “impossible to get in” to “possibly impossible to get in”. Im exaggerating but you know what I mean.

It is to my knowledge that ED has a much higher acceptance rate than RD, though they never disclosed the actual ED rates.

@2jae7jbyj I would definitely submit any scores that 700+ (with the possible exception of Math Level 2, make sure this one is as close to 800 as possible). If your scores are not as high as you wanted, see if you can take subject tests again in the fall (i know you would be cutting it close).
