Here is a list of some of the colleges I am thinking about. Are they out of my league? Which are reaches/safeties/targets?

Boston University
NYU
Boston College
Providence College
UConn
Georgetown
Gettysburg College
Villanova
Stonehill College
SUNY Purchase
San Diego State University

Bring that SAT Math scores up! I also would retake SAT Lit. Other than that you look like a strong canidate.

Thanks! I know, I’m definitely working on math, it’s always been a weak point for me. I’m also hoping Lit will be easier since I’m going to be taking AP Lit next year.

Is SDSU really a safety for someone oos like me? =/

What about schools like University of Maryland: College Park, American, Bucknell, and McGill?

Wow! I don’t think I have ever seen SAT scores so unbalanced! 780 Writing is exceptional! But your 550 Math is pretty bad (sorry for being so harsh). From looking at your class grades, math seems to be your only “weak spot”. I would STRONGLY suggest working on the math portion of SAT because you could easily get your score to 2200+ with such an exceptional writing score. You are obviously intelligent, but working on math is essential. You’re probably in for all your colleges except Georgetown, NYU, BC, and BU (with your current scores). However, work on that math and you have a great shot at all your schools! :)

Believe me, I know… I’ve even had a tutor for math all 3 years in high school and I’ve always struggled. But in terms of standardized testing it’s always been a priority.

Would I have a better chance at BU or NYU if I applied EA? =/

Retake SAT, and if you want to get to NYU, retake lit sat2, and try a math sat2. Since you have taken precalc honors, you are more than prepared for math2. However, since you did poorly on precalc honors and you seem to be bad at math standardized testing (you 550 in math sat) i would reccomend that you do math 1 (even though colleges frown on students who take math 1

Thought I’d throw in a few more schools to think about before I start narrowing down my official list – chance me for Wake Forest, Bucknell, and McGill? I know McGill doesn’t look at EC’s and Wake Forest is test score optional.

Wake Forest is a great idea. They are test score optional and they do conduct interviews. This will allow you to present yourself rather than just raw data.

Since you are considering the west coast have you looked at University of San Diego? Smaller than SDSU, private and the location is fabulous. Santa Clara might be another to look at. Also Furman in SC has a nice education department I believe.

Thanks! I’ll look at those too.

bring up the SAT by at least a hundred points and you’ll have a better shot. NYU, BC, and Gtown will be the hardest for you until you bring it up, but the rest look pretty good!! chance me! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1130954-chance-me-please-junior-top-schools.html

Thanks! Would I be better off taking the SAT I in October and November and leaving the SAT II (not 100% sure if I’ll be retaking Lit yet) for December? The only worrisome thing about doing that is that December scores would be too late if I applied EA/ED anywhere.

bump10char

You have to check with the schools you are applying to early to find their last test dates, but because most early decisions cone out in December, taking tests then probably can’t be an option.
