Chance A Smart Indian!

You have good stats, but what I don't like about you is the bragging; Hell I deserve a good college? Dude, everyone feels they deserve a good college.

Why do you think they should accept you over all those other thousands of brilliant applicants? (this isn't a rhetorical question)

"I don't understand Indians who post here applying going to low tier 2 colleges. Sure you can get money there but better to go to top Indian school! Kalamazoo? What are you going to do with that in Mumbai"

Most American colleges which come in top hundred are better then the best Indian university also.
For example- best in India in Economics- Shriram college of commerce
it doesn't even come in the top 100 universities of the world- in which most of the top 50 US universitites do have a place.
so then what is better?

Shreya...don't go by any of those rankings!!!!

But in terms of the experience, any American college>>>>>>>>any Indian college, I daresay.

tetrisfan:- I am not bragging. I just voiced out my opinion that I deserve a good college! I am aware that there are thousands like me who also aspire to go to a top college but just coz I declared it in this thread dosen't mean that I am blowing my own trumpet! I stated that in the beginning of my post!
No offence meant at all!!

Shreya:- You are right Shreya. Indian institutes lag behind American ones in world rankings. The top 100 U.S universities are really world class in terms of campus and education.

Dude, I think you would get into one of your colleges even into two or three. Frankly, I am tired of such indians with perfect sats, and ECs as if there are 25 hours in a day. If you don't get in, who will, and what is more important to me-where I will. Yeah, I didn't apply to your universities, but I am still international asking for fin aid.
I keep my fingers crossed for me; and for you, though I think you don't need it
P.S. I still think that you should have applied to some "less prestigious" colleges, just in case.

lol tromsy089! We Indians are STILL citizens of a developing world so we gotta move our butts twice as fast as the Western world! And thanks for your encouragement! Hope you get into an awesome college!

Well..since most of you have suggested that I apply to a safety school I applied to U Michigan(Though which school with an endowment of 7 billion $ is considered a safety school???).

You know cardinal you'll get into more than one of those schools- your stats are great, both academic and extracurricular! Having said that, I dont think U Mich. can be considered a safety with aid.

Oh you brilliant brilliant indians, GL!

Sorry mate, read my last post and realized that I sounded a bit brash. IMHO, if you can't make it to a top university, I wonder who can. Good luck. :)

Its okay tf..Maybe my words were misleading(as usual!)..Anyways, thanks a ton for the encouragement...I hope you too get into the college of your choice.

btw you applying for FA? I need a lot of FA man..I hope it dosen't go against me.

Harvard and MIT are crapshots for anybody.. I personally know students with perfect scores and EC's being rejected... Can't say abt Stanford.. But I would say that Caltech wont afford to reject you..

Newa.. was just wondering.. why didn't you apply to Yale and Princeton.. even they are top notches + need-blind to intl students..!!!!!!

N btw.. Congrats on achievin so much in two years.. Your profile is really great..!

Well I'm a sophomore so I have till fall 09 before i apply :p. FA is the problem...if FA wasn't a factor at these schools (actually it isn't at Harvard and MIT...), your chances would double. All you can do now is sit back and hope for the best...btw where in India are you from?

Harvard: Average Chances
Caltech : I don't think you stand a chance. No science related activities to push you in.
MIT : Almost similar as Caltech.
Stanford : Frankly, No idea.

Now lets see how your ECs are doing.

I have taken a military prep course students in NDA(National Defence Academy), Pune.
Liar. NDA never provides a prep course. And how the hell do I know it? My dad is in the Army and he was the Commanding Officer there for 2 years.
I am really into soccer as well and I am the Captain of my school soccer team. I have undergone a national camp organized by the All India Football Federation (Under 19). Will be going for trials next month and hope to make it to the Under 19 team!
I don't believe this either. According to this All India Football Federation There aren't any camps or Trials anytime next month.
Also , won a medal from NCERT after scoring above 90% in their Science Olympiad in Grade 9(Will this matter since it was in secondary school!!!)
Which Olympiad does NCERT conduct?
I have organized U.N Conferences in my school and participated w\in inter school Model U.N with considerable success.
YOU have organized conferences? Do you have the idea how big these conferences are?
HELL!!! I deserve a superb college!
You can put your head between your legs and kiss your butt.
Probably nothing but it sure will change your outlook and give you a complete education. Its people like you for whom college is a 4 year course to a job.

UoM doesn't give aid at all.
But I would say that Caltech wont afford to reject you..
Bing Bing...

Just take this advice aspiringcardinal, I have mentioned some ambiguities in your profile. If you are caught lying then you can very well expect to be kicked out. Your SAT score will NOT guarantee you admission anywhere. If you think that those 4 colleges are only good ones - reconsider. There are colleges that would provide you education way better than the ones you mentioned. You have to find a match. Tufts has a wonderful program. But hey, wth, you deserve a great college /sarcasm

I didn't want to reply to your post but I couldn't stand your bragging and pompous posts. Good Luck.

Your stats are awesome man... Seriously.. Like what Shreya said, I am pretty scared :( But that said, think you have a great chance.... :D

i agree with you bumble bee. You have taken the words from my mouth-

infact Aspringcardinal- have you really gotten that 2400, or is that similar to your football achievements = fake.
I hope you know that with these lies, you are going to find it hard to get into any college.
what do you think- Harvard won't know that NCERT doesn't conduct science competitions at 9th level.??

well of all the people here- you certainly don't deserve to get into any college, leave alone a superb one.

So Mr doubting thomas..Let me make myself clear.

When i said a military prep course I never meant a full fledged training camp.Thats only for cadets. What I meant was our school took our students to the NDA pune ..We did the usual excercise , took the guided tour and yes..We camped there for 2 days. And our school requested them to give us certificates. It was basically a military orientation programme..And I am sure NDA conducts them.Ask your dad. Okay , I must have elaborated a lot on this. So what? Dosen't Harvard want every detail of our major EC's/Field trips and stuff?. I mentioned this under the additional info section.

As for the under 19 camp I specifically stated that I have already undergone a camp with them. Aiff conducts so many camps in almost every state in india. You think they will put the details on the web for the hundreds of camps that they conduct? And I will be going for trials next month. And the site hardly provides regular updates on AIIF Under 19 trials. And ITS not a selection camp. They are just the trials and after that depending on our performance AIIF scouts call boys for the main selction. And I have ample documentation to prove this since many boys who are good at football and have attended AIIf camps get these notices in their mail.

And yeah , coming to the NCERT olympiad. I was in 9th grade when I got this medal for getting an excellent score on the Science olympiad. NCERT in association with cbse. NCERT's name is clearly written on top of the certificate. I forgot to metion CBSE..I AM SORRY..Happy now ?

U.N Conferences are organized quite easily. When I said ORGANIZE I hope you didnt think that it meant placing chairs , putting up banners and providing refreshments. Because it bloody well dosen't. I hope you are aware that to organize such events we usually have a working/Organizing committee with a lot of members and volunteers?? And the school provides us funds?? I think you have never attended a MUN so you must be not knowing how things are organized.I was the head of that committee in my school. And this conference isnt like the Harvard MUN . Its for schools in our area and for students within our school campus. Nothing flashy. But , following the same rules , procedures and working pattern.

And yes! i deserve a supreb college! Just like the thousands of aspiring undergrads in this community with good scores , EC's and wealth of talent!

Anything else Mr BumbleBee?? Any other objections or blatant false accusations at my achievments?

Let me make myself clear. I am well aware that the colleges I am applying to will cross check my info. You think I will put my college career in jeopardy by lying? Dude , I stated earlier that I didnt mean to act pompous or blow my own trumpet. I AM VERY VERY SORRY IF ANYONE GOT ****ED AT MY POST OR 'BRAGGING'!!!!!!!!I dont have to prove anything to you or anyone else in this website. Only the Admissions Committee of the colleges to which I applied will decide.

Tetrisfan:- Hey! Actually I am half Indian half Malaysian. But I am born in Dehradun and hold a Indian passport.

Bumblebee:- Do you want my passport number as well? :sarcasm

NDA will never give out certificates. NDA issues certificates from JNU only to Cadets. I would call this an excursion and not a bloody prep course.

False. There is only one camp every year for U-19 Team.
You claim to have alone organized it.

About the MUN I would leave it to others who have actually attended or 'helped' organize MUN. Tetris, can you please explain to this git how much work and how BIG a MUN is and also that 'he' can't possibly organize one alone? And what Committee were you head of?
And yes! i deserve a supreb college! Just like the thousands of aspiring undergrads in this community with good scores , EC's and wealth of talent!

Stop cloaking your bragging **** with the other lines.

And the mere fact that you have gone to the extent of clarifying whats on your application suggests that you are lying. And yeah next time send me a PM and I will write what you want me to.

Yuna: I don't doubt his scores, as it is the colleges would know. Its the rest of the application.

OK. aspiringcardinal, I myself helped organize a MUN conference at my school this year so I know how it goes. I think it would be more appropriate to say that you were a member of the organizing committee as it is really quite impossible to single handedly organize a MUN conference.

this thread is getting interesting :D

Mmm, I was just thinking the same thing! :D

catfight rawr

hmm btw, after your "clarification" your EC's don't sound that great after all.. but hey, who am I to comment on your stats, mine aren't great anyway :P
