Chance a Spring 2013 Transfer Hopeful

Hey all,

I applied to Amherst during freshman admissions, and I was unfortunately rejected, but I think it was for the best. I’ve learned more about myself by pushing past the initial rejections and excelling at my current school than I would have being accepted outright. That being said, Amherst is still the dream. Would anyone care to chance me? I plan to apply for Spring 2013 admission. I apologize for the length.

Thanks for your time.

Well you certainly have proven that you can achieve a high GPA when you put your mind to it. What do you have to do to register with the tribe?

I am Lakota Sioux on my Dad’s side, but I don’t have enough blood quanta to register. I believe the requirement is 1/4, and I am 1/16. I’ve marked it on my application, but I don’t think it will matter much without tribal enrollment. We shall see I suppose.

Any chances? Do I even have one? If it helps, I am also low income >50k AGI.

From the College Board from 2011:
Total students who applied for transfer: 502
Transfers admitted percentage: 4.0%
Transfers admitted: 22
You have an excellent profile - go for it. You are at a great school now, so you have nothing to lose.

2012 Fall transfers (Source: Amherst College)
Applied: 512
Accepted: Less than four percent (number of admits was not stated)

So, I am assuming that the message to take away is that at this level it’s ultimately a game of roulette with only slightly better odds. The statistics are disheartening, but I’ll try anyway.

Good luck, Tungtied!

Did you ever get in?

I would bet it’s too soon. Normally they would start in September so the news will come out only around May, June time.
