Chance a transfer dismissed from UF

I've currently been dismissed from UF for my embarrassing academic performance this past year. i was hoping you would take the time to chance my unique situation. I see dismissal as an opportunity for me to correct some of the bad habits I've attributed over the years and to start fresh with a good mindset.

So here's the story, and I'll try to be brief:

I was originally accepted to both UF and FSU during Fall 2010. My HS GPA was something around 4.3 and my ACT score composite, a 25. During high school I completed my Associates degree through dual enrollment and finished about 66 credits before entering UF with the AA GPA of 2.9.

After a year at UF with a 1.60 GPA, yes thats right, one point six zero, it brings my cumulative (across all institutions attended) to a 2.30. However, I generally excel in liberal arts classes especially Political Science. Even at UF, in the three Political Science courses I had taken, my Polysci GPA was a 3.7 (Not including the two courses I took during DE with a 4.0 GPA).

I know FSU requires a 3.0 cumulative to enter as a transfer and when they see my transcripts from UF the admissions committee will probably $hit their pants, but please chance me anyway. Flunking out of UF was not really a fun experience and I actually do have a chance of getting back in for the Spring, but I'm hedging my bets with FSU just in case. Note that you shouldn't take offense to the last sentence since you guys have an outstanding Polysci dept anyway ;).

Thanks, and let me know if I left any vital information out.

Be brutally honest!!!

On a side note, the November FSU v. UF game will be interesting. Whom should I root for, hmmmm....

Go back to UF and work harder.

I think you stand a better chance at UF than FSU.

FSU values academic performance and you haven’t shown much…so far.

Thank you for the response. Ideally, I would hope that I am readmitted. Dismissal really puts things into perspective and forces you to reevaluate why you’re in college. And for the first time in a while I feel the motivation to prove myself.

I know I’ll be fine though. If worse comes to worse the most logical thing to do is enroll at CC during spring and succeed in my coursework even if the credits don’t necessarily transfer. It will at least show that I’m ready to take college seriously and by next fall I could easily transfer to a respectable University as a last resort.

There is much less time and fewer chances to recover academically in college than high school, especially for young men who may need a direction to work towards. Getting academically bounced is neither unusual nor incapacitating. Find your passion and try again. Sometimes military service is helpful.

Good luck!
