chance a transfer?

Hi, I am a sophomore(rising junior) engineering major/econ minor at Michigan and currently have a 3.5 - 3.6 gpa
.
I know I missed the deadline for fall transfer, so I am planning to apply for transfer next year to get into chicago as a junior. So I am guessing if I do transfer I'll repeat a year but I dont have a problem with that.

I want to transfer into the econ program because:
1. I am sick of studying engineering
2. I DO NOT want to be an engineer at any point in my life
3. chicago econ is target for ibanks. Michigan econ, not so much, and michigan engineering is probably a soft target (I dont know because logically i would think they arent but i always see BBs at engineering fairs here)

Do you think I have much of a chance for transfer? I know my gpa is low but it's from one of the top engineering programs out there and engineering is known to have deflated gpa.

Also, I am just wondering, would chicagoecon be a significant upgrades in terms of opportunities available for ibanking opportunities, I mean compared to michigan engineering if I stick it out.

thanks

please???

Because this board is mostly composed of high school seniors (and a few UChicago students), I don’t think anyone knows enough about your situation to accurately chance you. Good luck - I really hope it goes your way!

The transfers I know have had higher GPAs, but like you say, engineering is hard. Can you drop engineering next semester and improve your GPA for when you apply next year?

I’m actually a high school senior, and am currently debating this. I did not apply to Uchicago due to a major inferiority complex haha, but I’m looking to possible attempt to transfer after a year or so. They only accept 50 transfer students, or so it says on their website…so its probably a pain the the butt. I’m also looking to study engineering but i don’t know if im going to stick with it.

Anyway, have you thought about maybe emailing uchicago or trying to talk to an admissions person, so they can tell you what you need to do ahead of time? good luck!

I’m going to be a Freshman at NYU next year taking core liberal arts classes. U Chicago rejected me, but I’d like to attend there sophomore year, if I’m accepted. What do I need to do to up my chances? I know I need to get near perfect grades my freshman year in college, but what can I do besides that? Will they still look at my high school transcript? Is it worth applying for awards and scholarships to enhance my resume?
