chance?

Hi, I am a sophomore(rising junior) engineering major/econ minor at Michigan and currently have a 3.5 - 3.6 gpa
.
I know I missed the deadline for fall transfer, so I am planning to apply for transfer next year to get into Cal as a junior. So I am guessing if I do transfer I'll repeat a year but I dont have a problem with that.

I want to transfer into the either the business or econ program because:
1. I am sick of studying engineering
2. I DO NOT want to be an engineer at any point in my life
3. Cal business or econ is target for ibanks. Michigan econ, not so much, and michigan engineering is probably a soft target (I dont know because logically i would think they arent but i always see BBs at engineering fairs here)

Do you think I have much of a chance for transfer? I know my gpa is low but it's from one of the top engineering programs out there and engineering is known to have deflated gpa.

Also, I am just wondering, would Cal business or econ be a significant upgrades in terms of opportunities available for ibanking opportunities, I mean compared to michigan engineering if I stick it out.

thanks

Are you at a community college or a 4 year? If you’re at a 4 year, and you’re planning to attend another year of school, you should realize Cal doesn’t accept senior transfers for Econ/Business majors. Also, you must fulfill your pre-reqs for Business or Economics (depending on whichever you apply as), which can be found at [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) Out of state students have a low chance of being accepted, especially into impacted majors. 3.5-3.6 isn’t low but it’s not competitive for OOS impacted majors.

by michigan I mean University of Michigan. I am in the engineering program but I definitely fulfill most prereq. I am willing to repeat junior year so it wont be a senior transfer

You can’t repeat a specific year because you transfer by units. And I’d say you have a low chance right now of transferring as econ/busi major through a 4 year OOS school (<15%). Especially Haas (<1%), your GPA isn’t on the 25th percentile for transfers.

the thing is with Haas transfers is that the vast majority (95% +, i’m guessing) are California CC which needless to say have a much easier grading system compared to U of M (esp. for engineering), so I’m really not sure if Haas admissions would take that into account.
