Thanks for taking a gander guys! Please chance me and include any other information you think would be helpful. :D

Don’t bother asking for chances again, it’s a waste of everyone’s time since you are good in every aspect. You must absolutely, regardless of who you are, apply early (best to try before the end of October). Start focusing on higher ranked or out of state schools that you would be interested in.

I really wish that I could, but I have some sort of instate tuition plan that has all of my college money in it, so UMich is the only school I’m really interested in. HONESTLY, I thought my lack of EC’s would possibly hold me back from admissions, seeing how many of the CC goers have resumes much more extravagant than mine. Are there any good (by good, I mean at least UMich caliber) OOS schools that give good need/merit aid for a student like me?

Acta, don’t let that 529 plan keep you from applying to other schools just to have well rounded choices at the end of the day. Eg. if UMich thinks they’re the only school you’ve applied to and you have a robust 529 plan, you might not seem as eligible for merit (which is “need informed”). But if you have some other offers on the table, you may be in a better position. I believe there are ways to liberate $ from the 529, with a little penalty. But you might be a candidate for merit at other schools, which would offset the penalty.

So please don’t put all your eggs in the UMich basket just to be safe. Indeed, you are a match, but it’s just never wise to only apply to one school, and UMich is for various reasons a very unreliable ‘safety.’

Next year is common app any way, so find a few others (a true safety that will offer you merit, a real reach etc.) to optimize the time you’ll be spending getting your ducks in a row.

Currently, my safety school is Oakland University, which I know I already qualify for full tuition. I hadn’t really even though about applying to out of state schools until this point, so I’m at a bit of a loss for what to even consider.

My plans at the moment are to go to UMich for undergrad for 2 years, then go to Pharmacy grad school at Michigan. If I don’t end up following through with the Pharmacy, I’m fairly confident that I’ll be doing SOMETHING in the medical field.

I guess my question is, what schools are known for having well-rounded (such as UMich) programs in case I decide to change my major? Also, what schools would be a reach/match/safety in terms of out of state schools?

Lol? If that was serious, I’m flattered. Also, for anyone else who chooses to reply, it’s worthwhile to note that in addition to the 529 plan, I also have a MET plan that has some money in it, which seems to make UMich more attractive than other OOS schools as well. I’m still open to suggestions and advice, though! Thanks for the replies guys.

Although your GPA is stellar, your ACT score doesn’t keep up with it, to be honest (GPA = Top 15 or better level. ACT: Top 20 sort of). However, if you apply early, I’m sure you will get into UMich.

I know my ACT isn’t amazing (by CC standards anyways), but I think it’s solid 50th percentile for even some of the higher tier schools. Even at UMich, 31 ACT is 75th percentile.

I didn’t really want to go there anyways, it’s just we don’t have much money outside of my MET and 529, so I didn’t even consider trying to go to an out of state school. Could you suggest any schools that might be of interest to me? (refer to the post about pharmacy and medical fields, and also need/merit aid)

You can try looking at Wayne State, but UM is superior in every aspect. However, Wayne is a better school than OU and dishes out scholarships to a lot of students. I have friends doing premed/pharmacy over there, and plenty of them have full-rides, too.

I considered Wayne and Ferris State for instate grad schools if I didn’t get accepted to UMich grad, but I was talking more along the lines of OOS undergrad/grad schools.
