Passions:
Sustainability-
I've initiated and currently run our schools pilot recycling program, along with a load of other sustainable efforts within the school and community. I don't count my work with sustainability for community service, because it's what I do.

I run atleast 4-5 miles a night, and am preparing to race a half-marathon by the time I graduate.

Penn
Chicago (supp essay is amazing)
Depauw

Thanks, and I'll chance back!

Looks like cutting meat from your diet doesn’t increase test scores.

Running is not an extracurricular if you haven’t done it with a program, it looks like stat-padding. I run for wrestling and have ran 15 miles continuously before not going on app. Every good athlete runs on their own.

thanks. but i’m quite sure it counts as a passion brah.

Vanderbilt 35%
Boston University 100%
Cornell 30%
Centre 90%
Stanford 25%
Penn 25%
Chicago 35%
Depauw 100%

GOOD LUCK :3

Thanks. Kinda liking the Ivy odds. haha.

Bump.
Things to also consider:
Commended with the most prestigious award given in the state of Kentucky.
Member of various leadership programs.
Proposed, initiated, and currently run our schools pilot recycling program (paper, cans, batteries and ink cartridges)

Your ECs are average for an IVY applicant. You have no mind blowing ECs. USAMO, USABO, international science awards, write any books, start a business make alot of money, would give you the real edge.

i thought 3 captain positions and president of 4 clubs along was purty ok, but if you say so.

Just out of curiosity. Why have you joined so many clubs? Do you plan to send a laundry list?

Things i’m interested in.
Beta and NHS for state conventions and opportunities to lobby with congressmen and local legislators.
Spanish because of my self-studying AP Spanish Lit and taking AP Spanish
Student Government and Social Action to propose the recycling program, handle the Humane Society, and take care of the gardens, etc.

genuinely not stat padding.

You asked for my opinion, and I shall now give it to you.

I am concerned about your ECs. They are scattered. What captures your interest the most? Spanish (language and communications), politics, or environmental studies? I would not know, and this is only a rhetorical question. Take some time to think about yourself, not just the stats that you have acquired for yourself. Ultimately, you will focus on one particular subject for four years.

Just think about it. You are by no means obligated to accept my opinion.

Is it not good to have a variety of ECs that have a wide range? I realize that I’ll focus on a particular major, but why should that limit what I do in high school?

If it pertains to anything, I talk in my essay about my interest in cognitive disciplines – a desire to understand. In an effort to find myself I’ve experimented with a bunch of blah blah. All of this is tied to Holden Caulfield as well. But i don’t know. I felt like having a variety could only be a benefit.

Also, this is still a chance thread. :D

Of course, you and I take different approaches to admissions. I am not saying there is a right way; I am simply offering my opinion. This is a situation that I call the “jack of all trades.” You have variety, and I am certainly not trying to put you down for doing so, but whether you have mastered something is what I wonder. This is why I look at your running talent. It may not amount to much, but I am impressed by your athleticism and dedication. Your ECs, not so much.

Oh, sorry. Right, chance. Okay. My honest opinion: you will most likely be accepted to the majority of your colleges. As for those top schools, your chances are slimmer (of course). You have some chance at those top ones. :-)

I am sorry for the triple post in a row, but…

I have also read The Catcher in the Rye. It is an interesting book. I would love to discuss more about the novel with you. Although I read it a year ago… I am surprised that Caulfield has inspired you somehow.

Play this up, it shows initiative and is the most original and interesting thing on your EC list.

^^ Stop trying to get laid on collegeconfidential dude, not gonna happen bro.

Targeted at Niflheim.
@Touhou
Your ECs are scattered. Starting a club isn’t much of an achievement. Captain’s position on an athletics team isn’t that big a deal either. I’m thinking REAL achievement, of which you have none.

Meteman, although you attempt to make valid points, i’m lost in obscurity due to your anger. Seems like your simply trying to vent frustration. I do however realize that I could possibly have a bit better ECs, but with what I have listed, I have no extra free time.

Added note:
I was not aware, or offered the chance to participate in Siemens, USAMO, and other ‘top’ ECs. I come from a rural high school in central kentucky, and I did what I could.

If it helps, our academic team travels around the nation and gets top 10 finishes in national level tournaments… to note, I’m the captain.

also, bump.

Vanderbilt mid reach maybe even low cause of ed
Boston University- low match
Cornell mid reach
Centre match
Stanford high reach
Penn high reach
Chicago mid reach
Depauw safety
