Chance a weak tester~ REDUX

Hey again, CC. I have heavily edited this (well, as far as I can tell) so that it could help out with you chancing me!

Asian, Vietnamese-American, Parents are refugees of the Vietnam War (both have BA's from 4-Year)

HS: Public, not that competitive... Sent 1 person to an Ivy 2 years ago... That's all I know.

I'm in California.

Will be applying for Financial Aid

I'm looking into:
- UC Irvine
- UC Davis
- California Polytechnic: San Luis Obispo
- San Diego State
- UC Santa Barbara
- Chapman University
Care to list any SAFETY schools? (majors down below)

Test Scores:
I am about as weak as they come for tests. Seriously, not even joking.
SAT: 1500 (this was on the 2nd go)
SATII: Biology E - 600, English - 490

Grades:
-Weighted 10-11 GPA: 3.5
-Unweighted: 3.4
Top 30% of Class
1 AP (well, 2 if you count next year), 2 Honors (3 if you count next year)

Senior Year Schedule:
-Trig/PreCal
-Physics Honors
-AP English
-Journalism
-Photography 2 (skipped a level)
-Government/Econ

Extra Curricular:
- I've walked AidsWalk every year for 5 years, I'm volunteering there this year.
- I'm involved with my school's Link Crew, which is a Freshman support group, aiding incoming freshman. If it helps, I'm in the Elite group (which is a year long commitment instead of just September)
- I took 'Child Development' at my school, which holds the Pre-School every year and I was one of the group teachers...
- I'm in about 4 different clubs including Key Club
- I ran a webzine (fairly successful) from 2005-2007 covering a lot of well known bands and concerts and have conducted several interviews. I also have photos up on several bands' websites (Paramore being one of them, last time I checked). I've written one recent article in memory of Michael Jackson. I'm hoping this would be one of my pushes on my application.

Other stuff:
- I write for my school's newspaper and am the 2009-2010 Opinion Editor w/column.
- I was featured in a school article about the ever increasing trend that is Twitter

-Recommendations will [hopefully] be stellar. I've already started on my UC personal statements and I think they're solid.

Prospective Majors:
-Biology
-Psychology
-Immunology (I know this is possible at UCI)
-Journalism
-Religious Studies
-Writing (Don't know what to narrow it down to, I like writing articles, sketches, hopefully in the future something like TV pilots...)

I'm looking for a school solid in science and good in all the other categories. Religious studies and/or Psychology seem to be my top majors. I'm also looking for a school with a great newspaper and something like a comedy/improv/drama club. I'm only trying to metaphorically expand my horizons and try new things/things I couldn't do where I am now.

I've expressed interest in becoming a writer (sketches for comedies and such) and my dream is to write for my heroes like Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, or write for SNL. I'm hoping this + the webzine will work together in my essays to show that I am pretty different when it comes to career strides.

Thanks for helping! I'll do my best to chance back, I'm still relatively new to this.

Sorry for writing an incoherent novella. Lemme know if you need anything to help you chance me!
-Forensics

bummmmmmmp? ^_^

Davis Irvine and SB are all high reaches unless you really really improve those test scores.

The others you have more of a chance, but with your low GPA I think you really should work on your SATs.

Thanks. With all I’m doing this year I might not even have time for SAT’s. Even with studying, my scores still come out as low.

Anyone else? :)

BUMPPPPPP

SAT scores are basically going to stay the same. I studied months in advance for both sessions and I ended up with a 1500… I can’t afford classes either.

Thanks for chancing me. Being in-state is an advantage. I think you’ve got decent chances at all of these schools.

UC Irvine: middle
UC Davis: good
California Polytechnic: San Luis Obispo: middle
San Diego State:middle
UC Santa Barbara: middle
Chapman University: middle

Thanks for chancing me.
I’m sorry to say i am unfamilar with all these schools though
wish i could help

BUMMMP
Anyone?

Thank you for chancing :). Your GPA is better than mine so kudos for you. Your SAT I and SAT II are really weak honestly. If you bring ur SAT I to around 1800 at least you should be ok, but try to break 2000, dont worry I got 1500 SAT I score on a pretest i took without studying. Your SAT II I would say dont retake english and do US history. English SAT II is hard, because I said so XD and I hate reading passages -.- and no1 I know takes it. I would say Math II, but you didn’t do Precalc yet so you would be at a disadvantage. Don’t do Math I cuz it doesnt count for UCs anyways. You could try a Foreign Language. Retake Bio also, or try doing SAT II chem if u took chem b4.

If you get a 1800ish on the SAT I you should get into SDSU, keep in mind they dont use the Writing part for admission I heard. SAT II i have no idea if they look lol.

Your Safety is maybe UCM UCR since your GPA is decent enough but SAT I isnt even their average and SAT II barely is I think, but you got good EC. Try considering UCSC, since it’s better than those 2 but not as good as mid tier UCs

Honestly UCD UCI and UCSB are out of question if you dont get 1800+ SAT I score and at least 600+ SAT II scores.

Keep also in mind UCs dont need letters or Rec. so iono if they care about it much. w00t long post and now i’m tired XD.

I would say you would have a shot at the schools if you raised your scores. Also, work on your ECs do something completely different so that it may overshadow your average GPA.
If you do that- you are in great shape!!
good luck!

Bump! I chance back! :)
