Chance a worried Sophomore who messed up (UCSB)p

Im currently a Sophomore in High School and my goal has always been going to UCSB, because of most of my family attending there. The only setback is that i did HORRIBLE my 1st Sophomore semester and I mean horrible. I've talked with teachers and they say it still isn't to late, but I'm worried their just telling me what i want to hear so i wont lose hope.

1st Semester Grades:
Int-Algebra 2: F/B
English 10 Acc: D/A
Spanish 5/6: D/A
World History Acc: A/A
Chemistry: F/B
AVID: F/A

I know the grades are terrible but I've made up English, Math, & chemistry in summer school/credit recovery. Since then ive been getting straight A's 2nd Semester and i plan on doing 250+ hours of community service in order to make up for my low GPA. I plan on trying to obtain a 3.7 UW GPA in order to get into UCSB.

My Current EC's so far:
-JV Football 2 Years
-JV Basketball 1 year
-Community Service 80 hours (Beach Clean-Ups/Soup Kitchen)

EC's i plan to take:
-250-300 Hours of Community service
-Basketball & Football my remaining High school years
-Trying to join ASB probably not going to run for it though
-Join CSF to graduate in white

Junior Year Schedule:
-APUSH
-Math Analysis Honors
-AP Language
-AP Spanish Lanuage
-Physics Honors
-AVID
-Health (0 Period state requirement)

Please any feedback is appreciated im really trying to figure out if its still possible to get into UCSB if i manage to get straight A's from here on out and fulfill my EC goals. Also any advice that will help me get in is welcome.

It is definitely not too late. Although UC Santa Barbra is a very hard school to get into, colleges do like to see an upward trend. If you keep up all A’s/B’s with as hard of a schedule as you have now, there is still a fighting chance. Definitely do not give up if you ever feel like you won’t get into UCSB. There are plenty of other schools out there where you can get a good education. Do your EC’s with passion, and score well on the ACT/SAT, and you have a chance. Good Luck! :)

Thank you Jaguar for your feedback bump

So for English, math, and chem, I’m a little confused. Are you taking then again in summer school to try to get an A? Will that cover up the D’s and F’s?
