Chance a worried southern homeschooler with horrible ECS

Black Female
currently a senior applying this fall (a little late I know..)

Homeschooled for 3 1/2 years

GPA:3.9

ACT:35

No APs or Honors classes

Awards:Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society (Tau Eta Chapter )

ECs: pretty terrible since freshman year my sister and I started homeschooling to help my mom out with our grandparents (one had severe alzheimers & one had the early stages of it) Both died, my grandma being the most recent a few months ago & only now are we able to get out and really do extracurricular stuff (our only free time was occupied by friends and working)
I dunno if I can put Grandparent sitting on a college application but w/e lol

I've had a paying job for just about a year

I recently started taking Violin lessons (something I've wanted to do for awhile)

Babysitting probably over 100 hours (I do alot for the neighborhood..lol)

I'm fluent in Spanish, French and I'm learning ASL

Is there anything else I can do between now and November when I apply ?

Schools I'm applying to :

George Washington University ED
Northwestern University
Emory University
Macalester College
Reed College
American University
Rice University

Thanks

I think helping to care for your grandparents is an outstanding ec and one that should be emphasized on your application. I believe colleges will value your willingness to pitch in with family to do what needed to be done. It shows responsibility, compassion and selflessness in giving up hobbies, ecs and free time to serve the needs of others. Even if you don't write your main essay about it (which I would seriously consider as well), you should be clear about the hours involved weekly and include at least a paragraph outining your role.

Your scores are outstanding. I am no admissions expert, but I think you will be accepted to all of your schools.

I think you will do very well, but I'm confused about your plans. Are you applying for matriculation this fall, in the spring, or a year from now?

I also think you will be accepted at all your schools.

You are one of the few on this board with no ivy or very top college on your list, and you are one of the few who most probably would get into one!

Thanks for all the responses ! I was starting to get worried for a minute..
HUNT- I'm applying for fall of 2010 so a year from now

bump............

I think Reed is quite fond of homeschoolers. I don't think your 'lack' of EC's will be a hindrance in any way.

So what are you planning to do in between? Be careful about taking college courses, because some schools might then consider you to be a transfer.
I would really question applying to GWU ED unless you have some really strong particular reason to go there--I think you can probably do better.
To be explicit about what others are saying, black females with your scores are extremely unusual, and your story is interesting, too.

Yeah thats a relief thank you guys

Hunt-I'd really like to continue working and take a bit of a GAP year maybe try volunteering or something productive and I don't plan on taking any extra classes really maybe a writing class..
Thanks it's good to know I'll stand out somehow lol

You should be alright. Keep in mind that being a homeschooler can throw the admissions game a bit and that you will probably be expected to submit an application supplement. You may not have ECs, but unlike many teens (and I'm not saying those teens are bad!), you have real, serious responsibilities that take up much of your time.

thanks & bumping again..

BUMP and I'm going to add Georgetown Univ. to my list of schools

bumping …

Don’t sweat it man, I think you have a great shot for GW with ED. All you need to do is keep up the hard work and maybe add one or two community service experiences. Find something that is meaningful for you and it will be easy.
