High School rarely sends people to Ivies or other elite schools, but we did win the goldman sachs award this year, so it is still a competitive school.
I wouldn't need financial aid, i don't know if that affects decision..

Any questions or anything that i could do to make my app better? let me know! any comments are gladly welcomed!

Financial aid need doesn't contribute to an applicant's chances--they're a need blind institution, along with most other ivy leagues.

The Eagle Scout thing is rather nice. Your scores will qualify you for consideration.... The only thing that is lacking for me is a specific interest. What do you want to study, and how have you incorporated that passion into your life thus far?

Being Latino helps. A lot.

What system do you use to calculate GPA?

ECs are a touch generic, especially if your sports teams haven't really accomplished much and only last ~12 wks a year.

But let's be honest... you're a latino from OR, and Columbia loves to have lots of minorities on their student pie charts. I'd be pretty confident.

do you guys really think that being hispanic has that big of an influence on the decision?
I've always known that additionally to having good academics and decent extracurriculars being hispanic gave me a slight advantage, but that much of one?

alejis: the short answer: yes, it is a significant advantage. applicants that are otherwise "hook"-less stand a much greater chance of admission if they are a part of a minority group.

^for the final time, being a urm is not a hook by any stretch of the imagination, a hook is something that a college would be stupid to reject you after seeing. hence you 'hook' yourself onto them, being Hispanic is an advantage not a hook.

I think the OP has an excellent chance of being accepted. It is still a reach, but my bet is thumbs-up.
