Hi all, I know this is a bit early to ask for chances into college, so along with rating my chances, could you also give me tips on what kind of stuff to do to make my "resume" better.

Important: I want to be a doctor

Washington U in St. Louis
and then some safeties

An Indian with an ACT of 30 who wants to be a doctor would probably get rejected by all but UCSD. You should also know that top colleges get many applications from high GPA/ standardized test scoring Indian kids who want to be doctors, mostly because their parents are pushing them into this profession. So, I am not saying you will not get in, but be prepared to answer some tuff questions about why you and not the other guy. By the way, if you make a 35 or 36 on the ACT your chances will be average (below 10%).

Just a clarification perazziman, my PLAN test score was 30 and my projected ACT score was 34-36. Additionally, I took a diagnostic SAT (just off the bat without studying) and I got a 2120. So, is it possible to get into the high 2200s or low 2300s with studying?

Additionally, what sorts of things should I do to have a better chance of getting into the top schools like MIT and Stanford?

Honestly, I would be surprised if you did not score a 34-36. I would also be surprised if you did not score a 2300 -2400 on the SAT. The problem is that to Adcoms, 2400 and 36 means you are not bad (not that you are great). My son took a couple of practice SAT tests before starting his prep and scored a couple of 2400s. I am pretty certain they will guarantee nothing. He is making plans of going to A&M for engineering … and he is Hispanic.

Wow, thats pretty great! Then if adcoms of top schools don’t really decide on scores for ACT and SAT because as you said, they only mean that you are not bad, then how do they decide on who to pick?

It’s hard to tell without an ACT or SAT, but if you do well on them, you should have a decent shot at most of your schools (obviously some are reaches for everyone). The only critique I have is that your EC’s are at best average. They won’t hurt you terribly, but they’re not going to help much. I agree with @evanderbc’s chancing of you, with the exception of UPenn: although your academics are in range, at that level of schools, its never a match.
