I know My EC's are not that great at all, but what If I apply through Early Desicion and write an amazing essay?

bummmmmmmmmmmmmmp :p

Most likely rejection

Rank definitely negates the seemingly strong GPA, and, like you said, your extracurriculars are not good. Did you do terribly on the Writing section of your SATs, or did you just forgot to leave your score?

I’d say that even with the ED, Cornell will be a very significant reach.

I certainly don’t think you are a “most likely rejection” as roadto3b suggested. A lot depends on your high school. If it’s a school sends a good amount of grads to top schools like cornell, and that has tough competition, then you may have a better shot. If your a NY Resident going for one of the state funded schools at Cornell (CALS, ILR, Human Ecology etc) then you have an even better shot. Your SAT I/ SAT II scores are certainly in Cornell’s range, and I think you have a decent chance at Cornell (assuming you have stellar essays and great recs.) Also Cornell probably wants to know your unweighted GPA, since this might be better indicator of your actual grades…If your rank is weighted and your school isn’t one that sends a lot of kids to top schools this will hurt your chances and make Cornell a reach for sure. As billabongboy said, a poor rank can negate a strong GPA. But apply no matter what, since you have 0%chance of getting in if you don’t apply. Good luck to you :)

Unfortunetly my school only sent one person to Ivy league last year so thats probably not good for me.

Unless you’re not telling us about something amazing you, you will most likely be rejected for low class rank and sparse EC’s.

It’s not really going to work out so well. I would say that you should definitely go for ED, but being an ORM with a weak GPA/rank/ECs and average scores, your prospects are bleak.

What if I told you that I know the cure to cancer.

Well sadly I cant since I dont, but what can I do in the next 3 months to better my chances?

Almost a 0% chance. You are ORM, have little to no ECs, and no leadership in those ECs. Also, don’t put down ECs that you’ve been doing for just a year, they don’t mean much. All that plus low rank and no awards, you don’t stand a chance. Sorry.

waaaaaaaa :(

What can I do in the next 2 months to significantly boost chances?

Are you going to be a senior?

Yes im going to be a senior, and school starts in like 1 week. I signed up for 5 AP’s and im hoping to explain to Cornell to notice the upward trend, because in 9th grade I was really immature and had no idea about college , 10th I grew a bit more mature, and 11th I really started taking school seriously, and I plan on going up higher from here.

Wow, I actually had the exact same mindset that you described. That being said, no ECs that you start in 12th grade really count. Sorry. Good luck though.

wow this is depresseing :(
