Recs and Essays: Very good

I’m asian by the way

Only thing I’m lacking in is SAT, would it hurt me that much as to keep me out of these top schools?

Sorry I’m so vague, it’s to protect my identity, my ecs are all very substantial and relate to my major and interests.

ECs?

It’s funny how those schools are so different and yet you feel compelled to apply to each of them.

I would suggest you retake the SAT. Did you try the ACT. Have you taken any subject tests?

Your SAT score as it stands will likely keep you out of most of the schools on that list.

I really don’t think that SAT score will keep you out of those schools. Everyone says their essays are good but if yours actually are then I think you have a good chance of getting into at least one of those schools.

I’m a senior so I can’t retake any tests, I’ve taken two SAT Subject tests (Chem and Math 2 and I got 770 on both)

Did you take the ACT?

Hmmmn, Asian with a 2150, while not impossible, is not likely at any of the Ivy plus schools. Considerable competition with folks that have higher test scores.

Would my intel status make up for my sat?

I cannot speak definitively, but its not a quid pro quo. Further, other folks have similar like accomplishments, with higher test scores. It will be viewed in totality of your entire application, but like I said, the schools your interested in (the most selective in the nation) coupled with mean scores of Asians make for a very very competitive pool.

I guess you didn’t take the ACT. Too bad. You likely would have scored quite high on the ACT which would have significantly helped your chances.

What’s your SAT breakdown? My daughter (also an Asian) has 2200 SAT but 1520 CR+M. She was admitted into an Ivy.

I agree with @2018dad. We need your individual score breakdown for a reasonable chance.

For Harvard, you realistically need scores in all 3 subsections > 730. One low score could kill you. For others you could probably get by with all individual subsection scores > 700. Depends on the school.

Intel STS semi-finalist is indeed an impressive feat, however you will be competing with Intel grand prize winners and first place trophies.

740R, 710M, 700W

I took the ACT in december but didn’t have any time to study, I got a 36 Math and Science, a 32 Reading, however my english score was only 25 because I was not familiar with the ACT Grammar rules (32 Composite).

I don’t think your SAT will hold you back. It’s acceptable, and your SAT IIs are good. My personal opinion is a great essay, a really interesting EC and your OK SAT score will trump perfect SATs, standard ECs and a normal essay. They can choose whoever they like, and the more you sound like someone who would add a lot to the student body - not just do well at studying, which is expected - the better your chances.

Though this seems like an odd time to be asking this, since you should have chosen one of those schools in the fall and applied early for your best chance.

32 on the ACT is a 2120 on the SAT. Pretty much the same as you SAT score.

Didn’t you apply early to any of these schools? That would have been your best shot.

I didn’t apply early because my Intel results came out in January and I believed would had boosted my application significantly had I waited.

You don’t think I’d even have much of a shot at schools like Cornell, Brown or Johns Hopkins?

JHU is doable…

How about say Cornell?

My gut feeling is that it is a low reach…with you eventually obtaining admission.

If your Recs and Essays are “very good” like the way you say they are, you should have no problem. You have Good GPA, Amazing Leadership, great class rank, good recs, good essays, decent SAT. Honestly you should be fine. HYPS are reaches for basically everyone, so maybe apply for some slightly lower tier schools like UCB, UCLA, UMich, Carnegie Mellon etc.
