Chance an international for Stern entry 2011

Good day CC members!

I am looking forward to apply to some business schools around the world and the Business and Political Economy program at NYU Stern caught my eye. I am not extraordinarily familiar with the format of these “chance” threats so I just took a previous threat as an example. If you need any more information please let me know ....

I would like to apply “Early Decision” for fall entry 2011, because Stern would be my only choice in the states. I am half Italian/Greek and attended an international school in Athens. I graduated with the IB Bilingual Diploma achieving 36 points (6,6,4; the 4 in Maths HL), and my end-of-year marks were as follows:

IB Italian A1 High A+
IB English A2 Standard A+
IB Economics A+
IB Physics Standard B+
IB Mathematics B+
IB History Standard A

In terms of awards I only have intra-school ones (Outstanding Achievement in all of my classes). As extracurriculars I sail and work as a tutor ...
I am proficient in Italian, English, Greek, Spanish and am currently learning Chinese.

I did a Gap year in which I travelled to more than 20 countries, worked as an options trader in switzerland for 3 months, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and was involved in a private equity leveraged buyout of a company three fellow classmates and I founded in high school!

In my essays I would like to focus on my traveling and about working at Starbucks as a waiter (Yes!)...

Furthermore I will not be applying for financial aid or college housing...

Can anybody chance me and tell me what NYU is thinking of the IB Diploma (I read it liberates me from the SAT requirement - is that truly what it does? No SAT and no SAT II?)

Thanks in advance, Best Regards from Athens.

ouucchhh  bad sign … anybody? ^^

At many private schools, not needing financial aid is a big plus for internationals, but NYU is need-blind (without meeting full need). I find it mostly impossible to estimate internationals’ chances. :(

Allright I can live with that … can you tell whether NYU is rather positive or negative inclined to the IB? is 36 more or less appropriate? … it was the first year our school offered the program!

Best Regards

anybody else?

I am not really familiar with the IB program. It is also not within NYU’s admission requirements or listed as an option for standardized testing. Others have also posted the same question with no success, so maybe you should ask the admissions office themselves.

I would suggest you to take the SAT. Stern is a very competitive school. They can’t really compare you with other students without your SAT or ACT. The reason why NYU is opting out the SAT Score option is to promote more minorities to apply. More applications bring more revenue to NYU. However, that doesn’t mean it will be easier to get in.
