Chance an international for the stanford!

I'm currently a senior in high school in Turkey. My most recent SAT scores are CR:800,WR:780, and math:800. I have couple of medals from the math olympics(inlcluding AMC). I'm really good at computer programming and web page designing(our school's web page belongs to me). I also made 800.000$ from programming and opened a school in africa with that money. I'm the co-founder of the school's weekly newspaper(available in turkish, english and arabic(which is my second language). On Turkey's national high school entrance exams, i was the 90th out of 1.300.000 students. I did a lot of sports but they were just for fun so im not able to write them here(I don't have any trophies at sports). What do u think about me getting into stanford? thank u for your interest.

Your stats are great! However, the problem is there are millions of other people that have similar stats, if not better, as you… I believe that if you write a good essay and have a good interview, then you will be guaranteed to get in! (: Good luck!

thanx exeterlover! good luck to u :)

I’m Turkish as well, but let’s keep it English here! Exeterlover is right, essays are really important. I think people with superb essays can get in even if they have mediocre grades, but there aren’t many of those. If you have good essays plus good grades/activities (which you do), your chances will be pretty high. Are you applying early, or for financial aid?

for financial aid. adin ne?

bump bump bump

Internationals have a lesser chance of getting financial aid, so you have to be extra good. :)

I feel miserable. Everyone has some company and has made enough money to pay for college 4 times over. Your stats are great, and like others mentioned, you will have to work on your essays. However, if you are already earning 800k USD (I’m assuming it’s USD or some comparable currency) yourself already, I don’t think you will be getting any aid at all even if you are accepted. So I don’t recommend that you apply for financial aid.

thanx for the suggestion simp1eton but the reason i wanna apply for the financial aid is because i dont wanna spend my money on my education. There are better ways to spend it. :)

Did you mean you earned 800k or 800?

u kidding, right? u ever heard oracle bought something for 800$?

Why go to college if you made 800k already? And also, I’m not sure if they’ll grant you financial aid since you’re clearly capable of paying for your education. They give financial aid to people with low income, so it might hurt your chances (a lot) if you first state that you made 800k, then say you want financial aid. You have a good chance without aid, so consider not applying for one.

bump bump bump

It’s a good idea to reinforce the significance of these ECs meant to you in essays, rather than simply listing them.

@timothyhses what u said make sense to some applicants but i already don’t have a lot of ECs so im just gonna talk about computer programming in my interview.

You opened a school in Africa? That should be a huge boost to your resume.

Sent from my HTC One X using CC

I can’t tell if this guy is being a complete ■■■■■ or not… if your making 800k, applying for aid will hurt your chances and you wont get any, whether you want to spend that money on education or not. They give aid to those that actually need it.

^he made $800 point 0 0 0, not $800K.

^ henryvli who writes point 0 in three decimal places. In their country . serves as , so he made $800,000. sadosado I’m sure you will get rejected for applying aid with that kind of money. P.S. You are not being charitable by tapping money that’s meant for people who can’t afford. That can pay for your whole years at Stanford with left over. Other than that I think you have an excellent chance at stanford. I haven’t even gotten a $1 loool.

I am pretty sure a teenager can’t make close to a million just by programming. Translating to Turkish money it is still almost half a million.
