I am planning on applying to both W&M and the Joint Degree St. Andrews program for international relations. I have family in Virginia and have visited the campus several times. W&M is my top choice as of right now, and any chances are welcome to relax my nerves for the next few months.

GPA: 3.97 UW, 4.49 W
Rank: 12/~370

SAT I
Math: 730
Critical Reading: 690
Writing: 740
1420/2160

4 AP Statistics
I have taken all honors classes throughout high school, APs you can take are limited until you are a senior because of prerequisites. My school offers many science APs, but I was not interested in them and instead pursued advanced honors classes in music and history.

Senior Schedule: AP German, AP Literature, AP Macroeconomics, AP Government, AP Calculus, Honors Wind Ensemble, Honors Business Practice

ECs:
- Heavily involved with school music program: Honors level wind ensemble (4 years), Marching band (4 years - Percussion Captain 3 years), Musical pit by audition (4 years)
- Student Government: VP Class of 2011 elected all four years
- Red Cross Club ~40 hours/year various activities
- National Honors Society: Public Relations Officer
- German Club and Exchange: Vice President as senior, treasurer as junior
- German Honor Society
- People to People Student Ambassador to Europe
- Tutoring: about 10hrs/month through sophmore and junior school years
- Swim team (9 and 10)

I have worked 20 - 40 hours a week in the summers since seventh grade at a local farm. More recently, I have worked a ~25 hours weeks through the school year as Front Office Staff in a Physical Therapy Center since 2009. In addition I have a second job as a lifeguard during the summer.

If you were IS W&M would definitely be a match. SAT scores, course rigor is a little lacking because you just took 1 AP in 11th, ECs look pretty well spread out as W&M says “breadth and depth.”
I would say it is a high match, 70% chance of getting in. OOS RD is the most competitive group, if you are a girl it is even worse.
Also just a reminder, you cannot apply to both William and Mary and the Joint Degree program, you can only apply to one.

Let me clarify first before I respond to the “chance me” part. You can apply to both W&M and the Joint Degree Programme through W&M. You just cannot apply to the Joint Degree Programme through both W&M and St Andrews.

As for your chances, you have lots of competitive qualities. Your coursework is actually very good. Taking only 1 AP your junior year is not all that uncommon and if you’re limited by your school and its prerequisites, just make sure you or your counselor explain that so we understand your school and evaluate your transcript appropriately.

Your SAT scores are strong sounds like your grades are too. Being elected as Class VP all four years is great. Make sure your extracurricular section makes it clear that you held that position all four years. Also feel free to talk about your job on the farm; that’s unique and interesting. Also feel free to take advantage of the fine arts submission to demonstrate your talent in music.

We would definitely want you to apply for admission and you look like the type of applicant who is competitive in our pool.
