Other Info: I haven't been able to do as much the past year due to a pretty bad knee injury from soccer. I have had two surgeries and sent well over a year in Physical Therapy. This has limited my playing soccer, doing other ECs and working, since there aren't a lot of places willing to hire someone on crutches. This experience has changed my perspectives on a few things and has solidified my dreams of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

Letters of Recommendation: will all be good. One teacher is also a leader for my youth group and commented on my faith and character as well as academics. Another great one from the coordinator of MSC program who I had for math. I asked a couple of other teachers so I can pick the best ones. Councilors will probably be okay. she knows my ability but has never been overly fond of me. I don't think she will write something intentionally bad though.

Schools I am definitely applying to:
U of Michigan
Grand Valley State
Hope College
Alma College
Wayne State

I am looking to pick about 3 to apply to.(1 easier one,1 hard one, and 1 in the middle) These are the harder ones…These are mainly the ones I am mainly applying to see if I can get in. I would like to go if I can get in, but it will take a lot of persuading of my parents:
Purdue
Brown
Northwestern
John Hopkins
Yale
U of Penn
Columbia
Cornell
Stanford
Harvard
MIT
Princeton

I really would like to know my chances in the first group and your opinions of which I should apply out of the bottom group. Is it realistic that I can get into any of these?

I also know that there is not a lot of time left, but if you could tell me if any areas of my application are weak that would be great!

If you have any questions, just ask. I am sorry this is so long. Thanks for any and all of the help!

You have a shot everywhere.

I’d choose 2 of Yale/Princeton/Stanford/Brown/Columbia and

1 of Cornell/NU

Though personally I’d apply to more of your second list and fewer of your first. All you need is one academic/financial safety, maybe 2.

Thanks! So you really think I have a good chance at all of those?

The only reason I am applying to Alma is a possibility of a full ride (with tuition/room/board/etc) and with Wayne State the main reason is the Medstart program. I will have a better idea of the chance at the full ride in a few weeks, so I might wait to send in my application until then.

Anyone else?

I’ll chance you for everything.

Purdue - in
Brown - reach for everyone
Northwestern - low reach
John Hopkins - just so you know they recommend 3 SAT II’s - but match still
Yale - reach for everyone
U of Penn - reach for everyone
Columbia - reach for everyone
Cornell - low reach
Stanford - reach for everyone
Harvard - reach for everyone
MIT - reach for everyone
Princeton - reach for everyone

If it was me though, I would pick HYP as top 3. =)

Oh and just so you know. Being Hispanic puts you really high up there to be accepted into all those “reach for everyone” schools I listed above.

I think you’d drastically improve your chances if you either focused on the SAT or ACT and improved your score to 2200+ or 34/35 w/ writing because at the moment that is lacking significantly for the second list of schools that are harder. Otherwise, great ECs make sure to present yourself well.

Chance me back please
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/766761-chances-top-schools-please.html

Thanks!
I think that I am going to sign up to retake the SATs in Oct. and the SAT II in Nov, or vice versa. I don’t want to apply to any of these schools in a binding decision, so will doing this give me enough time to reasonably apply to some of the schools on the second list? (my mom won’t let me take them before, so that is why I never took them previously)
You think that I should retake the ACTs, too?

Anyone else?

your 34 w/o writing is good. some schools don’t require writing. your stats are solid, plus urm = IN

Also, chance me back :)

Thanks. I was going to send both ACT scores in. I know U of Michigan just wants a writing score, but will look at the highest composite score, whether one took it with writing or not. I am hoping other places do this too.

Purdue is in
JHU, Cornell and northwestern you have good chances
The rest are reaches but you have a great portfolio of who you are, so it is up to luck

Your “defintely applying” schools, you are in.

HYPS/MIT/Upper Ivies are definite reaches.
Lower Ivies/NW: slight reach/match
Purdue: In

okay, thanks. Anyone else?

hey thanks for chancing me

you have a very good resume, and i would think your in at all of the scools in your first list. the ivy’s however are reaches for everyone and because everyone is so qualified its difficult to book an acceptance or rejection. but you have great act and great sat, good ec’s i mean your set pretty much anywhere and you have a shot. its just how you put together your essays and all that could be the defining factor. so out of the three hard ones id try stanford, harvard, and one othe rivy. your pretty mich solid to get into purdue id think

damn, u have a great shot at all! and also, don’t bother retaking the sat, just submit ur act. also, if ur gonna be a pre-med major, take my advice. go to a cheap undergrad college, maybe even free if u get a good scholarship, med school is going to be VERY expensive. and one last thing- i am so glad to see that ur a math major for pre-med, i can’t stand all those biology major pre-meds, cause if they don’t get into grad school, they’re pretty much screwed cause honestly, what the hell can u do with a BS biology besides go to grad school or become a high school bio teacher?

Purdue - in
The other schools have low acceptance rates because even though you’re ‘qualified’ for them, the likelihood of getting in is always close to 1/8 to even 1/10. Brown looks at more than just grades I know, and U Penn is focused on extra curriculers a lot, so I think you have a better chance at those schools than some of the others. If i were you though, I would apply to HYP and maybe one “safety” reach (haha) like…johns hopkins.

if i were you i would only send my ACT’s, thats a crazy good score

female hispanic= great shot at all schools. 34 ACT is awesome, I’m surprised you scored 1950 on the SAT. But in order to get into a hypsm type place, you have to apply to a few, because they require a good bit of luck.

U of Michigan - match
Grand Valley State - safety
Hope College - safety
Alma College - safety
Wayne State - safety

Purdue - match
Brown - reach
Northwestern - mid-reach
John Hopkins - mid-reach
Yale - high reach
U of Penn - reach
Columbia - reach
Cornell - mid-reach
Stanford - high reach
Harvard - high reach
MIT - high reach
Princeton - high reach

you should definitely apply to some more of your reach schools b/c who knows, you might get in.

Hey thanks for chancing me. And looking at your stats, i think you all of the colleges in the first set are safeties/high matches. You’re ECs are great and so is your GPA. You should definitely apply to some from the second list, as they are more up to your stats. Especially since you are a URM. I would suggest bringing up either ACT or SAT score, and taking at least two SAT IIs since many from your second list require that many. You have enought time to take both an ACT/SAT and SAT II test since you are applying RD. And Good luck from a fellow future premed student!

Hey! You chanced me, and I just wanted to return the favor.

U of Michigan- match
Grand Valley State- safety
Hope College- safety
Alma College- safety
Wayne State- safety

Purdue- in- I wouldn’t suggest applying here though. Even if you get in, I wouldn’t see a purpose in going here, because Michigan is ranked higher and has an in-state cost for you.
Brown- match/low reach- Good school to apply to. You seem to have a great shot too.
Northwestern- low reach/reach- Another good school to apply to.
John Hopkins- match/low reach- Good school also
Yale- high reach
U of Penn- reach
Columbia- reach
Cornell- low reach
Stanford- high reach
Harvard- high reach
MIT- high reach
Princeton- high reach

Yea, your stats seem very impressive. I would suggest applying to 2 of these: Brown, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and 1 high reach school. Again, I wouldn’t bother applying to Purdue, unless you have a personal interest in going there.

You have a great chance at all of the schools you are definitely applying at. You seem passionate, dedicated, and you have good SAT scores and grades.

I think you have a reach @ Brown and John Hopkins, too, the other Ivy’s are just a little too competitive but I think you can go for Purdue and UPenn too.

Chance me back!
