Chance at any of the top schools?

Hi, Im wondering which school to ED(or EA) to and trying to see if it is even worth taking a shot at some of the best schools in the country.

I’m thinking of Cornell, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, UMich, etc.

I go to a very highly regarded public school in NJ
GPA: UW 3.6 W 4.1 (Upward trend and take very hard classes). Will try to raise it to 4.3 by senior year
ACT: 35
SAT II Subject Tests: Bio(freshman year)-740 Chemistry(sophomore year)-800 Math Level 2(Sophomore year)-800
Course Load:
I have taken the highest math class offered in my school and double honors/AP science every year.
Took Honors Bio/Chem/Physics/PhysicalScience and AP Bio/Chem. Will take AP Physics for senior year
Took Honors English freshman year, dropped down to CPA for sophomore year, and took AP Lang for Junior year.
Taking AP Lit for senior year. Have taken CPA courses for history all 4 years.
Activities:
Over 400+ hours of community service, 10+ years of violin, vice president of math club, vice president of chemistry club

Thank you!

I would say that you have an okay chance, but obviously the gpa does stick out a little bit. Your high test scores may show that your school was very difficult and rigorous. Does your school rank? If so, what is your rank? Besides that, there really isn’t anything else you can do at this point other than write killer essays and hope for the best. Good luck!

Sorry I do not do chances.

Using EA is a very safe strategy, as you are not obligated to attend. Although you may want to wait for RD if you hope to get grades up first semester of senior year and these are available by Jan 1.

ED is trickier but potentially better, IF you know you can afford your ED choice and you have a clear choice. You will have a slightly higher chance in getting into any specific school, but it won’t help if you are a longshot. You might consider some liberal arts colleges (ranging from Colby to Hamilton to Grinnell to Law,rence). Most of these have 2 ED options. The key to ED, though, is being sure. I’d visit any college you ED, both to show that school you really want it, and so yo are sure yourself. Because if you are accepted, you are bound to go. (Unless you cannot pay. But that is true less than 5% of the time).

Thanks everyone for the input!
