Chance at Choate?

My daughter is applying to Choate as a day student entering 9th grade. She got an 84 overall score on SSAT = total 2130. She is in a gifted, public school, learning program since 4th grade. Currently dances in an intense Dance program - 5 days per week, President of the NJHS, many awards/accomplishments. Plays Piano & involved in Theater & community service. She had a very good interview.

What are her chances with that SSAT score? I thought that was good, but not sure after reading some other posts/threads.

dont let the other threads get to u, many are exagerated and don't worry. You should dmake sure her essays shows her passion and etc. Choate is a good school, and ur daughter seems qualified. That ssat score i think is perfect for choate

Thanks for the reply jyun212. I really appreciate it. Have a Happy New Year!

probably wont get through

It depends not only on her SSAT composite score, but also on her SSAT breakdown (verbal, math, etc.). Students with a math or verbal score that's considered too low might not get in even if their composites are high enough.

She is very strong with her verbal score -- 91% / 737.
She was very nervous and this was her first & only take of the test. Should she take it again. She did not prep (study guide, etc.) for the test.

I guess what I'm wondering is what is considered too low of a score. 84 didn't seem high or low to me. But the score report ranks her Estimated National Average as Verbal 96%, Math 97% and Reading 95%.

If you feel it is right for her to take another SSAT then she should. Her score isn't amazing, but it is NOT bad. She still will have a shot.

Her score is definitley not bad. That score shows the she WAS BETTER THAN 84% of the girls, in her grade, throughout the whole of the United States. It is a good score, just not the best.

Its not bad at all, but it would be a little to late to register for the January one so I would go ahead and stick with those.
