Chance at Midd?

Hey! I'm a prospective 2015er. I could only imagine myself going to a school like Middlebury (like so many brilliant people). I'm seriously planning to apply ED to Midd with FA. After reading so mancy "chance" threads, I just got so very curious...

Here's my particulars:

4 years of O and A levels in Singapore
GPA(estimated): 3.8
SAT Reasoning: CR 760 M 800 W 720
SAT Subject Test: Chemistry 800 Physics 800 Math II 800

Academics:
Studying A level English, Economics, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
Research experience in the national university
National medalist in Math and Chemistry
Won a distinction in the American Math Competition
National and intra-school awards in public speaking (Champion in School, bronze award in nationals)

Extra-curriculars:
2 years in Drama Club
2 years playing for the orchestra
2 and a half years in the Student Council
(Organised donation drives for the Earthquake in Haiti and the Hurricanes in South East Asia,
organised and participated in giving free music lessons to kids in a family centre,
organised fun activities for the welfare of students...
along with some other school events, which i will not list down here)

Do I have a chance of being noticed among so many other brilliant applicants? As an international student, will applying for FA largely affect my chances?

Thank you so much! :)

If you don’t have a decent chance, then who does?

Haha, thanks for boosting my confidence

Yes----you should be a very competitive applicant! But my understanding is that at all colleges you can’t really apply for financial aid as an early decision applicant. Do a search on financial aid for international students because there has been some discussion on the Middlebury board and a lot of discussion in general on the college search board. Good luck!

You can definitely apply for financial aid as an ED applicant. You would receive an estimated award at the time of your acceptance and then a final award after all of your documented year end information is completed. It doesn’t ususally change significantly though.

I guess what I have heard people say is that ED is not recommended if you need financial aid because you are bound and can’t compare offers.

Midd is not need blind for international applicants anymore. So checking that box hurts your chances. Your grades and test scores are good, but for Midd, your ECs aren’t deep enough. You need to show some kind of passion in your essay. How many hours of community service, and can you show you really played a major part?
