Recs: 2 awesome teacher recs. One amazing counselor rec. Additional Rec from NSLC teacher.

Hook: I fly planes. Private pilot license.

Despite my subpar transcript, might I have a chance at the program :)?

HPME is unlikely due to low GPA, SAT and SAT IIs. Solid chance for admission to Northwestern due, in large part, to geographical diversity and flying/pilot's license EC.

retook SAT2s in December not yet received if that helps any?
turned in application today. awesome essays. crossing fingers :]

bump.

Does it work to my advantage if I am pacific islander AND hispanic and asian? Multicultural background?

I wouldn't count on HPME at all. However, I'd say you've got a really solid shot for the college.

In terms of RD, it's really hard to say because of your GPA. HPME is unlikely though.

Current school has strange GPA system. Have had admitted students to Northwestern with 3.3-3.5s, weaker ECs, and lower SATs
Really don't know how the GPA works :/

i'm sorry to say i don't think you will be accepted to HPME (you have to understand it is ridiculously competitive) but i do think you have a good shot at RD (especially if that 3.2 puts you in the top 10% of your HS class).

checking "asian/pacific islander" on the application is likely going to hurt you more than help you. asians are overrepresented on campus (i believe they make up ~17%) so when trying to create a 'balanced' class, the admissions officers are likely more selective with asian students. checking hispanic will likely help you, however i think it's so silly that schools make you play these 'race games' on the application, so i wouldn't stress it.

My guess is if you're both, you're of Philippino descent? Why not mark that off as other and write it in. It is a unique ethnicity. I could be off base though, in which case I'm sorry.

you're wrong arbiter, but it's ok.
Mom from around the Hawaii area (not Hawaii though), Gparents from Spain on 1 side, Chile on the other. Don't know if writing an essay on diversity would help?

Northwestern's my number one choice school. I would most definately attend even without the HPME. Had a pretty terrible week so far, deferred from a backup school because they say they never recieved my recs/scores which I mosdef sent. Deferred from a close number two school. And rejected from a reach school (expected).

In that case, the answer is a simple yes, Hispanic is definitely more advantageous than Asian just because of sheer numbers. And sorry about your week- try not to stress too much! :)
