Hooks: first generation

I plan on shadowing a researcher at University of Toronto for a few weeks this summer
Also I hope to start a charity this summer

I'm a junior now

I’m really worried my weak extracurriculars will keep me from Rice,
this is probably a stupid question but are extracurricular only things offered by your school?

so my only ECs would be band, drumline, perc ensemble, math league and service club?

OH, I forgot I did stage crew sophomore year, not that it’s a big deal…

No, extracurriculars are not limited to activities offered by the school. They can include religious groups, internships or programs, and community service. Your EC are not that weak. I don’t understand your GPA system, but you have a good rank. I would say Rice is a bit of a reach, but still possible. You might also want to consider taking the ACT. Good luck!

A reach? If it’s not my ECs what is it? I thought my other stuff was good

Thanks though, I’ll chance you now

OH and they just do GPA out of 4.5 in my school, it’s really no different

Actually, it is probably more of a high match particularly if you do better on the SAT.

okay, just wanted to check thanks

Keep busy over the summer (programs, a job, etc), write stellar personal essays, and show more passion in your extracurriculars.
