I'm a senior and a middle eastern male located in southern california.

I want to apply to UCSD as an Electrical Engineer. I'm also considering many other UC's, and Cal Poly SLO.

Academics:

GPA - Unweighted: 4.00
GPA - Weighted: 4.29 UC GPA
Class Rank: School doesnt rank. I was eligible for ELC through my school, but i didnt make it according to the UC's... even with a 4.29... I think its because i took 12 academic courses in 10-11th grade, so all those 4.0's brought me away from a higher UC GPA, which other students at my school must have obtained.
Class Size: ~500 (less?)

SAT I Math: 740
SAT I Critical Reading: 530
SAT I Writing: 600
SAT I TOTAL: 1870 =[ (cause i cant read...)

SAT II Math Level 2 (IIC): 770
SAT II Biology - M: 730
SAT II Physics: 670

AP Tests:
AP Biology - 5
AP Psychology - 5
AP Physics B - 4
AP Physics C - (senior year)
AP Calculus BC - (senior year)

(yea pretty empty here on out...)

Extracurriculars :

Math Club for 2 years (part of math honors society)
E-Club for 3 years

Leadership positions: none...

Volunteer/Service Work:
50hrs at an enviornmental/nature center
~30hrs at library
~30hrs as a tutor (free)
All those hours were done this summer/this year...

Honors and Awards:
Passed the AMC12 and invited to take the AIME
Audubon YES! Award (for comm service at nature center)

I can include other details if needed (like my course schedule).

I mean for me I'm pretty sure I could get into UCD, UCI, and UCSB, and I was pretty sure UCLA and UCB are out of question.

My main concern was UCSD. I really want to go there... but I wasnt really sure if my stats were good enough. My SAT is low, and I didn't do much other than get good grades (I was pretty dumb... and its kinda late to fix it now).

Oooh yea... you guys are considering that I am applying an EE right? Cause I've heard that its harder to get in when you're applying for an engineer major =.

your gpa is higher than the average admit into ucsd, but your sat is lower. i would say you are about a match for ucsd. ucla/berkeley would be a slight reach. i would call cal poly slo a safe match, as is uci/ucsb/ucd. the only thing for sd that worries me is your sat, but i imagine your high gpa would make up the difference, but i cant be sure.

UCLA/UCB: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Safe Match
Cal Poly SLO: Safe Match

Your GPA is very good, though your lower SAT score does hurt your chance of admission to the higher-tier UCs. It is also strange that you would score lower on the SAT 1 Math than you would on the SAT II Math, so hmm. Perhaps a retake would yield a higher score. (I believe you can retake the SAT one more time in December?)

Your high GPA, fairly good SAT, and high SAT II scores will pretty much guarantee you admission to the second-tier UCs though (UCI, UCD, UCSB.)

As an engineering major, I think you stand a pretty good chance of admission to UCSD, though I am not sure on the specifics.

Yea... my SAT score scares me too =. It's my fault. I know I'm capable of getting ~770 math, ~650 writing, and ~550 reading (1950+), but I have been so lazy and haven't studied or practiced much at all. I'm gonna be pretty upset if it ends up being that my slight laziness made me not get into UCSD. I actually am signed up for the SAT this weekend, but I can't expect much =\ due to my laziness.

Anyone else? I guess I consider myself very close to the border for UCSD. I even feel like getting that 1950 this weekend could help me. Do you guys think that I would actually have a better chance for admission as an ENGINEER major with a 1950 SAT instead?

Also, if I am denied admission, does anyone know how that thing works where you appeal and get teacher recommendations?

I hope someone actually reads this post down here =[!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Thanks for the response. I think I'm still thinking the same thing I have been thinking all this time. I'm easily going to get into UCI, and I won't make it into UCSD by a bit. I'm pretty sad cause I felt like I was pretty close too =.
