I'm not used to these things, haven't read many and I don't feel I am in the right position to comment on others either.

I've wanted to go to Stanford for awhile, might as well try right?

Reside in: Bronx, New York
My GPA: 4.0 UW -- Unsure of Weighted
I couldn't take AP classes, since many public schools in the Bronx don't offer them, and we only started getting honors variations of certain classes my Junior year. I've been taking the most challenging courses I could.

QuestBridge Finalist, forwarding my app through Regular Decision.
1st Generation student and 1st to go to College
Valedictorian

ECs:
9th Grade - Chess Club participant (went to tournaments, never won)
9th Grade - Worked for Subway (the coupon handler, made it sound better in my app)
9th Grade - Biking Group (Training, "Century Ride", 250+ mile ride on the underground railroad in Ohio while studying AA history)
10th Grade - Internship (Lower East Side Business Improvement District for 6 months)
11th Grade - Food kitchen (Volunteered there for a few weeks)
11th Grade - Teachers Assistant in Biology (6 months)
12th Grade - Worked in a Farm and General goods store (Did this during my summer in Kosovo, a 3rd world country where my parents come from, to help pay for family bills)

Sucks, my school was amazing with ECs until the class of 2012 got there, our principal left and we kept losing opportunities through budget cuts...

SATs: This is where I fall even LOWER I guess
1870 (610 writing, 650 math, 610 reading)
SAT Math 1- 670 Math 2- 620

You sound like someone with quite unique life experiences. You need to make your essays shine and your letters of recommendation must sing your praises. Whoa… those SAT scores could come up a bit! Can you study and retake? Seems like someone with a 4.0 could score higher. Stanford loves to have very unique individuals who have overcome obstacles to achieve.

I wish there were enough time to retake the SATs but it is already December. I took the test twice and added a nice 200 points from last time. My school isn’t as competitive as it once was, weird but I have the highest SAT score in my class believe it or not.

I never thought it would be easy. I guess I just made this thread for people’s opinions on everything other than the SATs. I’m not sure exactly.

Umm Eastern Europe. Barely any Albanians go to these types of colleges (barely any even go to college). But I guess I would be considered white? Even though it isn’t all too accurate. My income bracket is <$15k

I’d say you have a fairly good chance. Quest Bridge, 1st gen college student will help a lot, but even without those, you’ve got a shot. However, if you can, you should get those test scores up some - at least 2100. If it’s too late for that, make sure your essays highlight why you’re unique.

I think u def. have a chance. U have a life story, r a QB finalist (I assume), have decent ECs and the SATs rn’t everything (frankly, Stanny recognizes SATs from ur area r a little lower too). Don’t listen to most people here who say u have no chance…many of us r only high school students too going through this process (and conceited one at that in many cases).

Thank you jacobo
batfan, not sure if there is any time left since college apps are due in January. I tried to give all sides of myself through the QB essays, I just hope Stanford reads them.

Oh yeah, I am applying to a bunch of city and state schools, along with a nice variety of privates. No way I’d go in thinking I could compete in the top 40 schools.
