Do I have a fighting chance of getting into these schools:
Stanford
Princeton
JHU
Swarthmore
Williams
Duke
Brown
Dartmouth
Cornell
UPenn

I know these are all reaches for anybody...I'm just a curious junior...what do you guys think about my chances?

Im pretty sure you will get accepted to most of them. Notmsure about upenn and stanford but imo you will get accepted to other schools.

btw. Which school are you attending? Im from nyc too!

Every school you listed has a 15> acceptance rate. Realistically you won’t get into most because of the numbers. That being said you are a very strong applicant, you will probably get into at least one. Applying ED or REA would help your chances.

Stanford-reach
Princeton-reach
JHU-high match
Swarthmore-high match
Williams-high match
Duke-high match
Brown-low reach
Dartmouth-low reach
Cornell-match
UPenn-low reach

For all of these schools you have a chance to be admitted. But what it will come down to is interest. The chances of admittance for all these schools are about the same-hard to get in to. I’d say your best chance of acceptance would be at Cornell, JHU, Dartmouth, Duke, Swarthmore and maybe Brown. But don’t take these stats too seriously, i dont know anything more than the next guy who posts on this thread. Good luck to you!

Thanks for your assistance…one question though, if say Princeton or Stanford was my first choice, would it be smart to apply scea to one of them? Does it actually help my chances?

Yes it would help, but again they are so selective. If you are willing to give up other EA options go for it.

It would probably smart to have some safeties…does anyone know based on my stats what some possible safeties could be(I haven’t met with my college counselor so I have no idea)

Bump…ik u guys are probably sick of reading this stuff but is just like a little more guidance
Is it worth it for me to apply to most/all of the schools I listed?

Well to answer your question. Are you going to go to all of those schools if you actually did get accepted to them? I think ur applying to too many. There’s a lot of essays you’re going to have to write and besides it’s quality over quantity. It’s best to focus on 1 school and their prompt for your personal statement. Besides that, it’s pretty obvious ur a strong applicant. Since u still are a junior I guess u should probably try to raise it up. That’s my suggestion. Everyone who applies to these schools are strong applicants like u are. That point being said, I guess you just have to have luck. However, I know ur going to go to a good college.

It doesn’t hurt to apply to all of them. It’s just personal choice of writing all of the supplements and paying for the application fees. You will only just bolster up your chances of getting in to a very prestigious schools

So basically is it that I need to show lots of interest in the application/supplement of my first choice school because there are tons of other qualified applicants?

I’m no expert, but you can always compare average GPA’s and SAT scores of those schools. What are you planning to major in?

you have a chance at all those.
Please DO apply to safeties that you are sure you would be very happy in though.

I’m thinking of majoring in biological sciences

Colleges take into account that I go to a private school right? It’s extremely difficult to get A’s in every subject, and I know maybe 1-3 people who have done it. I know that 3.75 might seem a little low in comparison, but I hope colleges know the difficulty of my school

Does your school have class rank? That would help, so would being valedictorian
anyway…

Stanford- reach
Princeton- reach
JHU- high match
Swarthmore- high match
Williams- high match
Duke- low reach/ reach
Brown- low reach
Dartmouth- low reach
Cornell- high match
UPenn- low reach

i would apply to some safeties, because most of these schools are crapshoots lol. they are for almost everyone don’t worry.

Nope we don’t do any of that…but I do take the most rigorous options possible, if that helps any

From what I see you’re definitely on the right track. Try and get some community service in their. Not only is it fulfilling but it also looks good!

Stanford- reach
Princeton-reach
JHU-high match
Swarthmore-high match
Williams-high match
Duke-high match (you never know though, they seem to be erratic in their decisions since so many apply)
Brown- reach
Dartmouth-low reach
Cornell- high match
UPenn- high match

I agree with the other posters.

Sent from my SCH-I405 using CC

So basically I have a shot at most of these schools, but I’m in dire need of safeties…now I need to figure out what those will be…hm
