Why are you interested in UConn?

UConn offers Urban Studies-- a major not offered by very many institutions. I've narrowed down my list to four reasonable schools that offer this major- Universities of Minn., Texas, Connecticut, and Pittsburgh, after looking at each program's class offerings and finding them what I desire to learn about. I have not visited the Storrs campus, but I plan on doing it this fall.

**my GPA is unweighted-- not unranked. Typo.

I think you have an excellent chance! While it feels like I know at least one person with every major (psychology is by far the most popular), I have yet to meet an Urban Studies major, leading me to believe that the University would be grateful for more people in this program. Your ACT score is slightly above the average of what UCONN accepts as well, when compared to the SAT - a 28 is about a 1280, right? The Honors Program may be out of reach (SATs about 1380ish to get in), but that's not such a big deal. You can apply to the program later on if you wish, which is exactly what I'm doing.

I think it's important to visit the campus and see if it's a right fit for you. My friend is a tour guide, and she finds that people who come during the summer are much more enchanted with the place than those who come, say, during the winter. Have you been through tough snowstorms before? Do you mind that it's definitely very quiet except perhaps during Spring Weekend? :) Contact me for more info if you're interested in the program; I'll see what I can find out for you on my end!

As someone who visited UConn (and liked it), it's not for everyone. Hell, it's not for most. I really liked it and wouldve definitely applied, but Storrs is the complete middle of nowhere. My mother commented that I wouldve become an alcoholic and that's probably true. It's a great school, dont get me wrong, but Storrs is a dump. Just a prewarning :)

I would say that you have a good chance, but you are out of state. If your class rank and ACT were higher, I'd say you have a better chance, since UConn is pretty numbers-based in terms of admission. But since you're out of state, you are going to have a much harder time getting accepted.
