Chance at UCSD?

Ok, this is my current situation...

When schools starts in the fall, I will br a Jr, however, my first 2 years weren't that great because I was not intrested in getting into college, I planned on going to a community college first. Near the end of my sophmore year, I changed my mind. I decided that the college I would like to go to is UCSD. Here are the classes that I have took and will take, plus the grades I got in them

Freshman Year

Freshman Foods 1st semester - A, Health 2nd semester A,
PE (required) no letter grade, only P or F, I passed
Spanish 1 - C
Physical science, B 1st semester, B+ 2nd semester
English - A both semesters
Algebra 1B -, B- 1st semester, B+ 2nd semester

Sophmore Year

Biology, A 1st semester, B 2nd semester
PE (required) A both semesters
Honors English, A 1st semester, B 2nd semester
Geometry, C both semesters
Spanish 2, C both semesters
World History Honors - B 1st semester, B+ 2nd semester

Junior Year

AP Biology
AP USH
AP Eng, Lit and Composition
Algebra 2 / Trig.
Physics
Spanish 3

Sr, Year

AP Chem
AP Literature
AP Goverment and economics
Pre Cal
Anatomy Phisology
Art 1 (required for UC)

My Jr. and Sr. I plan to get all A's. I know I can, im a very intelligent person it's just that I had no motovation my first 2 years. Also, here are the list of classes my school provide

https://admissions.ucop.edu/doorways/list/site

I want to go into UCSD for pharmacy, I have not taken SAT, SAT II or ACT yet. I plan on taking them all my Jr. year, SAT I in the fall, ACT sometime after that, and SAT II both on the same day in June. However, I will probably take SAT I again in the begining of my Sr. year because by then I will have learned alot more about English and Math. I am also a CA. resident, and by the time I apply for college I will have about 400 hours of community service (already have 200)

So what are my chances at UCSD ( I'm really sorry for the long post)

The link doesn't work, but go to this link and type in Irvington High School to see the list of classes my school provides, there should be only result

https://admissions.ucop.edu/doorways/list/

Oops, made a mistake again....

English Language & Composition (AP) AP ENG 11
English Literature & Composition (AP) ENG 12 AP

I will be taking those classes

Sorry for so many posts, but I forgot to mention that I am first generation in my family to go to colleges, I parents grew up and lived in a village in Pakistan and did not go to school here. I also beleive I will be able to write a very good essay about myself.

Okay, here's a few things you need to know. First of all, the UCs don't count freshman year grades at all--and since they will be deciding upon admission for the senior grades are in, they don't count these at all.

Secondly, they count exactly five test scores--the three parts of the SAT I (and only the single best sitting--not the best score for each part from multiple sittings), and they count your two best SAT II scores (regardless of how many sittings or how many times you took any of the tests). They also compute a "California GPA" based upon adding a point for honors courses or IB courses or AP courses that meet their standards for honors up to eight semesters worth in your sophomore and junior years combined--in other words for 4 year-long honors or IB or AP courses. Also, they throw out PE grades and grades in courses like Health. Got it?

Then for UCSD, they will want to see a lot of science courses--and you'll need about a 3.98 "California GPA--weighted score", and you'll need SAT Is that are about 625 on average for each part, and SAT IIs that are about 650 to 700 on average.

The problem I have with ranking you now is that the only thing I can go by so far is grades in your sophomore year. Junior year grades aren't in--neither are the SAT Is, and neither are the SAT IIs.

However, here's what I can tell you so far--the four honors courses you've taken don't count for honors credits from the UC system--you can see that if you go to the link you provided and type in your school. For this reason, your total California GPA at this point is only 3.3--and you have no honors courses. You need to take at least year-long honors courses if you can next year and right now you are only scheduled to take three. At this point in time, you have zero chance to get into UCSD. But if you can take four honors courses next year, get As all the way through those and the other courses, then your California GPA will move all the way up to 4.045--giving you an excellent shot at UCSD.

P.S. But, if you don't do better next year, you will have a hard time getting into the mid-tier UCs like Davis, Santa Barbara, and Irvine unless the test scores are outstanding.

Good luck.

Well, my PSAT score was like 1800...also, should I take one more AP class, is that what you are saying?

Gahh... I have a feeling im going to have to go to a CC first and then trasnfer to UCSD

Also, health was required, foods was my 2nd elective, buh i didnt get into health 1st semester so had to go 2nd

What would my California GPA with my grades for soph year plus all Jr. year if I have all A's next year, including the 3 AP classes?

I also come from a pretty good HS in the bay area, we are currently the 2nd best HS in the city. And I know that about 20ish people got accepted into UCSD from our school this year

I mean 20 people will be going, not 20 people accepted. i'm sure more were accepted seeing how many about 20ish people got accepted into Berkley and 20 into UCLA.

If four AP classea are too much for you, don't do an extra AP class--just do well in the three you have scheduled. Your California GPA with all As will be 3.9545 in that case.

Do you think it will be good enough for UCSD?

I honestly don't think so, UCSD has become more competitive in the last couple of years and it will only get worse, a whole of Bs and Cs won't look pretty (your sophomore year). I see possible matches for UCSB, but that's about it. UCSD will be a reach.

^
I agree.
You need stellar junior gpa and also great SAT scores like around 2100 and SATII at 700+.

Hmmm...well thanks for the help, however I am now thinking of going to USF for 2 years than transferring to UCSF for pharmacy school, seeing how UCSF is the #1 pharmacy school in the country. Also, USF has really good connections with UCSF and is much easier to get in that way.

But wont it look good that I made such a huge improvement? Because I obviously wont be the same person when I apply for colleges, i'll be the person they see in my Jr. year....gah...iunno, this is depressing, wish I did more this year. But the only AP class I could have taken this year was bio, alot of my freinds did, and the only other honors class would have been geo.

I have a feeling that I will get really high SAT II scores. I will be taking SAT II bio and Eng. I know that the AP bio teacher also prepares you for SAT II, and you study year round for that class. Plus, I will have AP English next year, so I should be good. Most of my freinds who took SAT II have gotten really high scores, I know a guy who got 800 and another who got 790.

Or I can go to a CC and trasnsfer into UCSD, but which school would you say has a better social life?

UCSF or UCSD
