I applied EA the other day. I have a 3.75 UW GPA but unfortunately I have awful SAT’s I just am not a great test taker. I have a 610M, 550R, and 630W. I know my reading is very low. However, I have showed a lot of interest and visited. I have great extracurriculars with a ton of community service, leadership and employment. Also, I have taken a pretty tough course load and go to a top and known public high school… Do I have a shot???
I think you do. There are two ways this is likely to go initially. One is that you get accepted EA, and the other is that they decide to defer you to the RD round, in order to see how the entire pool of applicants is shaping up. Hard to even give a guess as to how yours will go, not that our guess means a lot anyway. But I think we can be encouraging to the point that you definitely have a shot. And while I won’t argue that 550 is low for Tulane, keep in mind it is still above the national average. Just saying don’t be too hard on yourself.
If you do get deferred, one thing you might want to consider is trying the ACT. If you do better on that than the SAT then that could move your application way up in consideration. But one thing at a time.
