Chance/Find matches.. Will return favor.

First off, I am a first generation Asian female and rising Senior who lives in California. I come from an underprivileged family as well.

Ecs:
Attended a Leadership Camp
President of two clubs on campus (Academic Decathalon, Chinese Club)
Also in NHS and CSF (but almost everyone is in it.. so I'm guessing it's not that important)
Tennis (made Varsity in Freshman year, co-captain this year and captain senior year)
Part-time job at a doctor's office
Regular volunteer at local hospital/nursing home
200+ hours of community service since Freshman year
TakING summer courses at a community college (computer sciences)

Weak ECs, I know, but I am really, very passionate about tennis and my volunteer work at the nursing home and my experience at the camp, I plan to bring them up somehow in my essays or interview.

Cummulative unweighted GPA fresh/soph/jun = 3.68
weighted = 4.0

NOW I had a huge upward trend. Freshman year was crap with B's and C's.. second semester of that was A's and B's

Sophomore year was half A's and half B's.. then second semester, I brought two of those B's to A's

Junior year was all straight A's (I drastically improved my work ethics and study habits)

My SAT score was 2120 and I was a National Merit finalist..

And my class rank... well in the top 10% is the only thing I'm really sure about.

So I want to get into engineering and I am kind of all out of place with my choices, so I need help figuring out which schools I definitely should apply to for my intended major and can you please chance me for

University of California Berkeley, San Diego, Irvine, Los Angeles
University of the Pacific
Rochester Institute of Technology
Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute

Plus give me some reviews or suggestions for other schools. Thank you very much, and I will be happy to chance others.

Oh does it help that I am a musician also? Nine years of guitar and seven of violin/cello?

University of California Berkeley— Match
UC San Diego — In
Irvine — Match
UC Los Angeles — Match
University of the Pacific — In
Rochester Institute of Technology — In
Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute — In

Are you set on the West Coast? Might want to look at CMU or WPI.

Anymore please, or does kameronsmith’s opinion pretty much matches everyone else’s pretty well… :D

kameron’s opinion matches all of us =D.
but i think berkeley is a match. i’m not too familiar with the other california schools, but you should be fine! your EC’s are great also. my gpa is on an upward trend like yours, so i think colleges will like that :D.

Chance me back too?

I’m a little confused about why kameron posted Irvine as a match though, I never thought at all that Irvine would be the least bit selective… :D:D

Well the average GPA at Irvine is 3.84.

But I’m not from Cali, so don’t think I’m the expert.

thanks for chanceing me!!! ya, your ec’s are much better than mine, and colleges will see the hard work you put in later on in high school, and they definitely look for that, it looks like you definately have a chance for all of them

UC Irvine’s average gpa was actually 4.01.

I think you have a good chance at everywhere except UCLA and Berkeley. You might still get into those, but it isn’t too likely.

I agree with kameronsmith, although Irvine is probably “In.”

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/733802-great-app-except-ecs.html</a></p>

University of California Berkeley— High match (Honestly, its largely because you’re an Asian female, so it will be harder.)
UC San Diego — In
Irvine — In ( I think)
UC Los Angeles — Slightly high match
University of the Pacific — In
Rochester Institute of Technology — In
Rennsselaer Polytechnic Institute — In

also check out the Claremont schools - such as pomona and claremont Mckenna. Also look at USC.

Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/733304-chance-schools.html</a></p>

Thank you guys so much!! Now can anyone help me decide on a college that would be right for me based on my stats and intended major? I want to go into computer systems. Which school would be right? Can anyone give me insight on how good these schools are? Thank you!

And anyone who chances me, will be chanced back still. :D

The acceptance rate at RPI has been dropping like rock in recent years. Six or seven years ago it was >75%, now its about 35%. The class of 2012 had average SAT of 1340 (two parts) and the class of 2013 is projected to be about 1360.
So all in all think its about as hard to get into as UCLA and slightly easier than Berkeley. You still have a great chance because a 2100 puts you at RPI’s 75 percentile (three part SAT) not sure thing.
In terms of academics I’d put Berkeley on top but followed closely by RPI and UCLA. The other schools are good but not quite as well known for engineering.

RPI also has one of the world’s most powerful academic supercomputers.
[RPI Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI)](http://www.rpi.edu/research/ccni/index.html)

You’re in at all of your schools besides UCB and UCLA. You could get into those anyways, but it might be hard for you to get your wanted major.
Also, UC’s don’t look at freshman year. :)

My guess is match for all, including LA, but there is a slight (30-20%) chance that you will be rejected by Berkeley. Perhaps try Cornell or Rice.

Chance me back?
