Chances at California Colleges

Hi guys!

I've been roaming around this site for a while now and have realized (finally) that you guys can give me a ton of advice. So, please help =]

I'm a female Asian/Pacific-Islander and will be a high school senior this year. My goal is to have a career in medical research. Due to family issues, I'd prefer to stay in-state, but if you think I would be a good fit in another college, please let me know.

GPA: 4.0 (UW), 4.8 (W)
Rank: top 5 in class of 700+ students
SATI: Reading-760
Math- 720
Writing-680
(retaking this in October, I'm sure I can raise my score to at least a 2200)
SATII: (I'm taking the math and English ones in November)
730-US History
700-Biology (Molecular)
660-Physics (not planning on reporting this if possible)
AP Scores: Biology-5
European Hist-4
US hist-4
Physics-5
Calc B/C-5s on both subscores

ECs:
-California Scholarship Federation (since sophomore year, first available year for applying)
-NHS (only accepts students junior yr at my school)
-tennis team for 4 yrs
-student government, dropped after freshmen yr after realizing it wasn't my thing
-Key Club secretary junior yr, currently president. TONS of community service done for this club. This and tennis are my passions.
-LEAF Club (environmentalist group) since freshmen yr
-teen church group

I'm not really involved during the summer other than a couple service projects and tennis practice, so I'm not sure if that will really hurt my chances.

And finally, my colleges of choice:
-UC Berkeley
-UCLA
-Stanford
-UC Riverside (safety)
-UC Davis
-UC San Diego
-Caltech (I'm thinking this is a huge reach)

Thanks in advance for everyone that helps!

If you report your SATs, your Physics score will be reported as well.

UC Berkeley: Likely
UCLA: In
Stanford: REJECT
UC Riverside (safety): In
UC Davis: In
UC San Diego: In
Caltech: REJECT

None of your extra curricular activities have anything to do with science/ math. You will be rejected at Caltech.

I kinda figured Caltech would be a waste. Thanks for the reply!

I think you have an excellent shot at UCLA/UCB, but the reason I'm not "matching" you is because I'm always shocked at who does/does not get in there. I would think you could get into at least one of them, but again, it's anyone's guess. You are safeties at UCR, UCSD, and UCD, probably with regents at all of those (maybe except for UCSD). I think your chances are slim for Stanford and CalTech. Good luck!

Great GPA/scores, but your ECs are rather bland and unfocused.

-UC Berkeley: high match
-UCLA: match
-Stanford: reach (no demonstrated passion/focus)
-UC Riverside: safety
-UC Davis: safety
-UC San Diego: safety (you're ELC -- ~90% acceptance rate for ELC students)
-Caltech: reach

Make your essays awesome and you'll have a good shot at Berkeley.
