Extracurriculars:

I don't want to get too specific for privacy reasons. I have been involved in six clubs in school, very involved with one of them. For the club I have been very involved in, I have participated in an exchange program where we have worked with a low-income school in Harlem. I am also secretary of one club.

Outside of school, I have over 100 hours of community service, working with children, political groups, church, and the Red Cross. I have had two jobs, one that was seasonal and another for six months.

Academic Interests:

Brown University: My prospective major is Modern Culture and Media.
NYU: I am applying to the Cinema Studies program through Tisch.

I think you'll get into NYU no problem, especially with those SAT scores. I even think you have a decent shot at Brown, although they're probably looking for students in the top 3% of their class of something. You're in about the top 6%, which is still very good, just not by Brown's standards. Do you go to a very competitive school, because that could counteract the issue of class rank. I still think you should go for it. Good luck.:)

Yes, my school is very competitive. I'm not in the top 3-5% because of the IB Program at my school. I'm not in IB, and the students who are get an extra weighted credit toward their GPA for taking Theory of Knowledge. Also... there's blatant favoritism at my school... my principal is willing to give some IB students Honors credit for Advanced courses, unethical stuff like that. Can you tell that I'm just a little frustrated with how this works at my school? Haha. Thanks a lot for your input.

No problem. I feel your pain. My school is very frustrating as well. They weight regular courses for goodness sakes!!! There is such a big disparity between the regular courses and the Honors / AP schedule I take. I am ranked 21/278, have a 2030 SAT score, but there are people above me w/scores in the 1700s. It really annoys me that while I am struggling in BC Calc that some seniors are getting 90+ averages in an freaking ALGEBRA class offrered to seniors! I took that stuff in 8th grade and aced it then. The whole ranking system is misleading so I don't put too much emphaisis on it.
