Chance for Carnegie Mellon, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Georgia Tech

Please chance for:
Carnegie Mellon
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Georgia Tech

I am currently a junior, but I really want to know my chances before as I am nearing the beginning of the college application process. The following are my anticipated stats:

Asian Male, Out-of-State at each school

Unweighted GPA: 3.59 (upward trend from lowest point at 1st semester sophomore year)
Weighted GPA: 4.37

I attend a Magnet IB High School that has been consistently ranked by US News as one of the top 25 high schools over the past few years.

SAT I:
Critical Reading: 710
Math: 800
Writing: 800
Total: 2310

SAT II:
Math II: 800
Physics: 720

Senior Year Classes:
IB English 2 HL
IB History 2 HL
IB Theory of Knowledge 2
Multivariable Calculus (Highest math class at my school, I am taking AP BC Calculus as a junior)
IB Math HL
IB Physics 2 HL
IB Chemistry SL

Extracurriculars aren't stellar, probably average

id say you have a decent shot

CMU- high match/low reach due to considerbaly low gpa/ec
in think you will get into the other 2 colleges

Also, I am applying to the UIUC Engineering college if it makes any difference.

I don’t know if you will get into UofI’s engineering program. I know a bunch of kids at my school that were all rejected, only 2 or 3 got in actually. If you do, it’s because of your SAT, since nothing else about you stands out. good luck.

How much does course rigor factor in? I attend one of the most rigorous high schools in my state. To give some bearing on it, the average SAT score in the magnet program is a 2140.

Those SAT Scores are phenomenal but you’re GPA is fairly low…try to get that up as much as you can!!

i think your shots look good for all of those…look at RPI too…

fathom93 I’d say you have an excellent chance at U of I; the admissions department there looks very favorably on high test scores AND academic rigor. If Your GPA was from all ‘regular’ classes, then maybe not an easy in, but you have rigorous classes at a top school, and being out-of-state will be helpful too. CMU has lots of applicants with good scores/GPAs. They also want passion, and to learn about what else (EC’s, personality) you will bring to the school. Give that some thought and prepare for expressing that in your essays. My son is applying to both schools as well, and some LACs (interest in physics and music double major.) Good Luck.

Hello. It is funny, we are applying to many of the same schools. For all of these schools, your very high SAT scores will definitely put you in a different class of applicant. You seem to have a pretty strong course load as well, which is very important. You should definitely try to get some more extracurricular activities though. Try to do some sort of scientific research and volunteering for those schools, and make sure you explain your passion in your essays and possible interviews. Maybe consider getting a job, which will make you look like a better applicant, especially to Carnegie Mellon. Your grades are okay, and if you bring them up a little bit, I am confident that none of these schools are out of your reach. Good luck. Please give me advice as well.

Multivariable Calculus is Calc 2 i think…

After Calc 2 would be calc 3 which is vector calc i believe
